@linmeitalks Sorry Lin, but you have the illusion that all so called boomers have a mortgage free home of their own when many live in blocks of flats and cramped terraces houses still paying rent. Those who've spent their working lives in retail and the hospitality industry aren't wealthy !

There are boomers sitting in large houses who don’t even want to free up equity or sell their house to help their own children get on the ladder. This is the level of selfishness we are dealing with. Thank god for parents like my mother She would sell her house in Tottenham tomorrow if it meant helping me…. And I would do anything to make her life comfortable- that’s what family is about. An eco system of giving. These days many boomers don’t want to help with grandchildren or finacial assistance and children don’t want to help their parents - so much selfishness between recent generations and it will get worse.

These young people who never think they will be old, who think that changing the triple lock, depriving the elderly of the £16bn uplift a year will change the housing market, the job market, suddenly see salaries quadruple... they show how idiotic and economically illiterate they are. Stop blaming the elserly, 90%+ of whom worked and paid tax for the catasptrophic economic approacj that has affected the young.
Lin Mei@linmeitalks

Can I ask why, if a pensioner has worked all their life, they only have the state pension to rely on? Didn’t decide to save ? Put away for a rainy day ? Sounds like poor planning to me. And yes if your children have flown the nest and you, or you and your spouse are knocking around in a 3 or 4 bedroom house you bought decades ago- SELL it. You’ll have more than enough to live on.

You can buy a nice little house like this in Suffolk with a 5% deposit of £6,000. Nationwide, Barclays and others are offering good deals for first time buyers with only a 5% deposit. But then you'd have to forego your gap year in the Far East and Antipodes or your fancy wedding. Poor you. Boo hoo. 🤣

No one serious is claiming that North Sea oil and gas is state-owned. That's a strawman. The actual argument is about what extracting it does for Britain - and the answer is straightforward. North Sea oil gets sold on the global market, yes. Around 80% of it bypasses our refineries entirely, partly because those refineries were built to process Libyan crude, not the light sweet crude the North Sea produces. Fine. But when oil companies extract that oil and turn a profit, the Exchequer taxes that profit. That tax revenue is real money that can subsidise bills during supply disruptions. That's our stake - and it's a legitimate one. Gas is even more direct. North Sea gas feeds straight into the UK pipeline network. Britain consumes between 65% and 85% of the gas it extracts domestically. It stabilises supply. It generates taxable profit. There is no coherent argument for leaving it in the ground. Now, climate. Britain produces less than 2% of global greenhouse emissions. Not a single major polluter on earth is adjusting their behaviour based on UK climate commitments. What actually happens when we strangle our own energy sector in pursuit of rapid decarbonisation is simple - we de-industrialise, we export jobs to China, and China builds EVs powered by coal. We get poorer. The climate is unaffected. Leaving recoverable North Sea reserves untouched doesn't save the planet. It just makes Britain weaker.
Zoe Gardner@ZoeJardiniere

It is blowing my mind how many people don’t seem able to grasp that oil & gas in the North Sea is not “ours” but was sold off to private companies who will trade it on the international market like any other fuel. We don’t get any kind of privileged access to this fuel.

@TomDennison12 @seledka_vodka Once the licenses have been sold and the oils been drilled what else are the supposed to do? What difference would a refinery make? Crack spreads are volatile and it’s not a biz a gov should get into on a standalone basis.

Last Sunday a woman was raped by 4 men at the Assembly Rooms in Bath, UK. These are the man that the police are looking to find. The woman described them as “Asian men”. I think we know what that means. Bath is known for its history, its Roman ruins, its tea rooms. Now it is known for “Asian men” raping unsuspecting women. Had enough of this yet?

Bullshit! Grok fact check “The meme was created recently (likely by a British account) as a satirical jab, riffing on Japanese fans cleaning Wembley Stadium after their win over England this week. No evidence it originated in Japan—it's using anime style for the meme format, but that's global, not a Japanese export.”

@robert65281 @seledka_vodka I know what happened with north sea oil, I didn't vote for Thatcher, but successive UK governments appear to be about as useless as each other, they never learn from their mistakes, continually ignoring and gaslighting their own population.

@TomDennison12 @seledka_vodka Norway has far greater NS reserves than Uk. Norway did the 50% state ownership model from the start, both for costs and revenue. Norway extracted at a slower rate. The uk sold off their assets during the thatcher years. So many key differences you don’t seem to grasp.

@SandyofSuffolk Blair said education, education, education, so they all went on any course they could get, like media studies and golf course management, hoping for a £100,000 a year job sitting on their backsides, but sadly the jobs didn't exist, so it's McDonald's, Costa coffee, or benefits.

The trouble is young people have been told for years "you can be anything you want to be", when you can't. They've seen a handful of people make millions from being an influencer. They've all gone to university thinking it'll be a gateway to a better job when, really, if you're not exceptionally bright, you may as well not have bothered. The majority of people have to settle for run of the mill boring jobs. And young people are resentful. They're waking up to the fact life is hard graft and to get anything you have to work hard, long hours, and forego many things that, until adulthood, were handed to them on a plate. They're lashing out because too many people like teachers and their soft parents haven't prepared them for life in the real world. It's coming home to roost that life isn't all unicorns and gap years. They want what nan and grandad have. Now. Now!! They forget how nan and grandad got it and it wasn't by sitting on their bums on Playstation. Welcome to planet earth young 'uns.

Uk pensioners get less than £13k a year state pension. We don’t even come in the top 10 of other European country’s state pensions but according to the left we still get too much. Especially if we’ve made provisions with a private pension which they’ve not.

@Brillo58 @phughes76340646 @Exp_Sec_Prof @GoodwinMJ Yes, they seem to think that once you're a pensioner there's no longer any gas, electricity, water, home insurance, car insurance, telephone, internet, clothing, food and travel costs, many people are still paying rent and possibly a mortgage, so try that on £12000 a year !
