HB 439 would provide a mechanism for counties and municipalities to establish local homeowner’s incentive adjustment programs to reduce the tax burden on qualified homesteads, provided a referendum about such a program is first submitted to relevant electors. The Atlanta Community Food Bank distributes an average of 10 million meals a week to a network of 700 partners across Georgia. Kyle Wade, CEO of ACFB, says that the bank is currently serving about 250,000 households every month. That's 60% more people than three years ago. Many of those people make too much money to qualify for federal benefit programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, also known as SNAP or food stamps. That program is set for significant reductions under Congress's "One Big Beautiful Bill." "So we know that some folks are going to lose access to SNAP benefits and all of that's going to increase the need for assistance from the food bank," says Wade.
