I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Victor Zepeda, a dedicated @LACoPublicWorks employee who lost his life while on the job today in #Lancaster. My heart goes out to his family, friends and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time. Victor’s nine years of service as a heavy power equipment operator reflect his commitment to public service and to the residents of @CountyofLA . This is a heartbreaking reminder of the risks our workforce faces every day. Authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into this incident so we can fully understand what happened and take every possible step to prevent such a tragedy from happening again.

🔥 Wildfires. Floods. Earthquakes. And California lawmakers want to reduce the number of trained responders available during disasters. AB 1537 blocks peace officers from serving in roles that support emergency response. In a state like California — that’s a dangerous mistake.

HUGE WIN FOR PUBLIC SAFETY: This morning we gathered out front of the Board of Parole Hearings to oppose the release of sexually violent predator Gregory Vogelsang back into our community. Today our voices were heard. After previously being recommended for release, we just got word from CDCR that the Parole Board has decided to delay Vogelsang’s parole and refer him to a rescission hearing within the next 6 months. This means two things. First, and most importantly, Vogelsang WILL NOT BE RELEASED back into our community this week as expected. These hearings are rarely more than a rubber stamp, but thanks to those who spoke out and the public pressure that was created we now have a real chance to keep him behind bars. Second, it means he will now have another hearing in the next few months to determine if his parole should be officially postponed or canceled. We will keep you up to date on when this hearing will be. So what’s next? While this is a huge victory for the safety of our community, we must make sure that he stays behind bars for good at the next hearing. We have also heard that, thanks to significant public backlash, Governor Newsom is now considering some of the reforms to the Elderly Parole Program that we announced today. Only a change in the law will ensure more dangerous criminals are not released back into our neighborhoods.

The California Legislative Hispanic Caucus member @AsmwomanMacedo is leading the charge on changing César Chavez Day to Farmworker Day. The first of many changes that need to occur! @KateSanchezCA @SenValladares
Assemblywoman Alexandra Macedo@AsmwomanMacedo

I am amending my legislation - Assembly Bill 2407- to rename #CesarChavez day to Farmworker Day. 👩‍🌾🧑‍🌾 This is about the hardworking men and women in ag who have greatly contributed to our state. It is about the movement, not one individual. #FarmWorkerDay #CaAg #CALeg

Suspend the gas tax! I’m not backing down from the fight to SUSPEND the current gas tax and STOP the proposed mileage tax. Enough is enough! My bill, AB 1745 will deliver relief immediately.

Let’s be honest about what this is. Taxpayer funded PR. $19 million to polish the Governor’s brand. No marketing campaign is going to convince Americans he’s White House material.
Ashley Zavala@ZavalaA

Is this a good use of taxpayer money? Gov. Newsom wants to spend $19 million on a brief ad campaign to improve California's image nationally while state deals with years of budget problems. Democratic state lawmakers who oversee CA's budget don't want to talk about it:

California gas prices have been far above the national average for years - long before anything happening in Iran. Stop misleading Californians to dodge accountability. They’re struggling to afford gas, groceries, and rent. They deserve the truth not gaslighting.

Governor Newsom Press Office@GovPressOffice

About a month ago, California gas prices — adjusted for inflation — were lower than when Gavin Newsom took office. Now Trump’s war with Iran will push them back over $5 a gallon.

The facts are clear: this administration has worsened the affordability crisis, gutted our refineries, and ignored Californians struggling to make ends meet. Refineries have been warning the Governor for years - and once again, his failures are costing Californians even more.
Eytan Wallace@EytanWallace

NEW: Chevron sent a letter to Gov. @GavinNewsom @CAgovernor and leaders of the legislature, CA Air Resources Board, and CA Energy Commission, expressing concerns over CA @AirResources Board’s proposed Cap-and-Invest regulation, arguing it could significantly increase costs on refiners in California. In short, Cap-and-Invest is a climate policy that sets a limit (CAP) on the total pollution allowed in the state. It basically forces large polluters to pay for their emissions, with the money generated going toward clean energy and community projects (INVEST). Supporters say the program is crucial to protect the environment, reduce pollution, and work toward a sustainable future. But oil and energy companies are concerned the program’s new proposed regulations will increase costs on refiners and hurt the state’s energy economy. In the letter, Andy Walz, Chevron’s president of downstream, midstream, and chemicals wrote “the proposed regulation will cripple the survivability of the state’s remaining refineries.” In previous one-on-one interviews I conducted with Walz, he expressed concerns about the future of oil companies in California. He concludes the letter, warning the proposed regulation “will cause irreversible harm to California’s economy and energy security and broader vital American interests.” Reaching out to CA Governor’s for a response.
