The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department mourns the loss of Deputy Levi Vargas, who passed away on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at the age of 30. Deputy Vargas joined the Department in 2015 as a Custody Assistant and later graduated from Academy Class 413. He served in several assignments throughout his career, most recently at San Dimas Station. He was known among his colleagues and friends for his professionalism, commitment, and compassion to our communities. His loss is deeply felt across our Department, and he will be greatly missed. Deputy Vargas is survived by his wife, parents, siblings, and extended family. We honor his service and legacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our San Dimas Sheriff’s Deputy who passed away after suffering a medical emergency while participating in the 2026 Baker to Vegas Challenge Cup Relay race. The Deputy was among numerous law enforcement personnel representing their agencies at this annual event when the medical emergency occurred. Despite receiving medical care, the Deputy ultimately passed away from their injuries. The Deputy’s family has been notified and the Department has been coordinating with them to provide support and resources. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the Deputy’s family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time. The loss of our beloved Deputy, a 13-year veteran, is felt across the entire LASD family. We ask our community to join us in honoring our Deputy’s service and keeping his loved ones in your thoughts during this challenging time.

I am amending my legislation - Assembly Bill 2407- to rename #CesarChavez day to Farmworker Day. 👩🌾🧑🌾 This is about the hardworking men and women in ag who have greatly contributed to our state. It is about the movement, not one individual. #FarmWorkerDay #CaAg #CALeg

Sacramento sheriff, DA protest parole of man convicted of child sex crimes sacbee.com/news/politics-…

The California Board of Parole Hearings is at it again. They have granted early release via the Elderly Parole program to sexually violent predator Gregory Vogelsang, who molested more than five children in Citrus Heights and was sentenced to over 300 years in prison for his crimes. And he is headed to a neighborhood near you. California’s elderly parole system is broken. The public deserves to know how decisions like this are being made. The full press conference video will be posted soon. @ThienHoCA @SacCountyDA

Is this a good use of taxpayer money? Gov. Newsom wants to spend $19 million on a brief ad campaign to improve California's image nationally while state deals with years of budget problems. Democratic state lawmakers who oversee CA's budget don't want to talk about it:

About a month ago, California gas prices — adjusted for inflation — were lower than when Gavin Newsom took office. Now Trump’s war with Iran will push them back over $5 a gallon.

Chevron is warning an upcoming vote by California regulators could be the final straw that collapses the oil industry in the state. "If we close and we move out, we don't come back," exec Andy Walz told me. "I do think we should declare an emergency in the state of California."

NEW: Chevron sent a letter to Gov. @GavinNewsom @CAgovernor and leaders of the legislature, CA Air Resources Board, and CA Energy Commission, expressing concerns over CA @AirResources Board’s proposed Cap-and-Invest regulation, arguing it could significantly increase costs on refiners in California. In short, Cap-and-Invest is a climate policy that sets a limit (CAP) on the total pollution allowed in the state. It basically forces large polluters to pay for their emissions, with the money generated going toward clean energy and community projects (INVEST). Supporters say the program is crucial to protect the environment, reduce pollution, and work toward a sustainable future. But oil and energy companies are concerned the program’s new proposed regulations will increase costs on refiners and hurt the state’s energy economy. In the letter, Andy Walz, Chevron’s president of downstream, midstream, and chemicals wrote “the proposed regulation will cripple the survivability of the state’s remaining refineries.” In previous one-on-one interviews I conducted with Walz, he expressed concerns about the future of oil companies in California. He concludes the letter, warning the proposed regulation “will cause irreversible harm to California’s economy and energy security and broader vital American interests.” Reaching out to CA Governor’s for a response.
