This is probably gonna catch me heat, but seeing AVATAR 3 during the anniversary of THE LAST JEDI really puts light on what I feel went wrong with those last Star Wars movies (and I’m saying this as someone who still enjoyed them) and maybe recent blockbusters in general. All the sincere moments in THE LAST JEDI are punctuated with a quip or a joke (even Luke’s final moments with Leia end with ribbing about her hair). AVATAR doesn’t play with that shit. The blue people are sincere as fuck. The whales are going on trial and the kid named Spider is crying and it’s all wholehearted. We are thirsty for more sincerity. I don’t hate THE LAST JEDI, but I rank it low because it feels like STAR WARS brushed off its earnest myth vibes at a time I think people really needed that again. Also all the dope scenes in TLJ that everyone always posts are in the last 40 minutes of a 2.5 hour movie and that still bugs me whatever

@davidehrlich Having been conceived at the same time as the second one, I expect it to be something already seen, but Avatar has always been a compendium of all Cameron's films. I'm curious to see how he further raised the bar of epic and melodrama.
