Career changers - do you ever have the urge to reach out to the people in your previous career that made your life miserable and thank them for motivating you to make a change and let them know how awesome you’re doing now?

@danieldibswe I agree a high level understanding is necessary to utilize cloud services but a user doesn't have to know much about dhcp leasing or switch configuration. I think something like Network+ would suffice but a CCNA level would be overkill for certs.

@TomSharkey84 And how do you connect your VPCs? How do you get traffic into your VPC? How do you publish a service to the outside? How do you setup a VPN? You get a little for free but it's still the same basic constructs as on-prem. Somehow you need to get the traffic there.

Seeing junior people move straight to cloud without background in systems administration or networking has me concerned. It’s still similar tasks as on-prem just with another flavor. Don’t build a career on only cloud skills. May seem smart now but maybe not long term.

Today marks two months since I started at #AWS fixing and maintaining the #cloud infrastructure. It's been challenging but I've met it head on working harder than I ever have in my life. It's been absolutely rewarding to be in an industry of unlimited growth.

I worked as a train dispatcher in California for a time we had to contend with mixed priority traffic and passenger trains which take precedence. Intermodal is one piece of the pie.

@aviflombaum @WeWork @FlatironSchool @learn_co @2Uinc I think they had to sell as many assets as they could when their IPO imploded. The company had a shaky foundation but I do miss the Portland Custom House. They did an amazing job to that building and it was energetic with events.
