Based on what? Did you personally call on every primary school in Australia in the 60s in order to observe assembly/classroom practices? I distinctly remember doing it. It was not done daily, like prayer assembly before school, but I obviously did it enough time to still remember the words. National anthem at that time was God Save the Queen. Other people posting here also remember doing Flag Pledges at school in this time period. It was obviously something some schools did.

Forget welcome to country. When I was a child, we would pledge alliegence to Australia before the Australian flag every morning before we entered class at school. I think we need to revisit this ceremony.
