THE £100,000 QUESTION No wrongdoing has been proven. Robert Jenrick and Michal Berkner deny any wrongdoing. But the public record now shows: A company with no employees in its latest accounts donated £100,000 to Jenrick’s leadership campaign. It ended that year (2024) with: £57,951 in cash £2.3m in creditors £747,301 in negative net assets £1.93m owed to a British Virgin Islands company That BVI offshore company also reportedly employed Jenrick’s wife as legal counsel. And the Financial Times reports that £37,500 may have entered the donor company from Innovyz USA before reaching the campaign - an allegation now being investigated by the Metropolitan Police. This proves nothing by itself. But it raises one very simple question: Whose money was it really? I followed the filings, the donations and the reported relationships in my substack account which you can find in my Bio.

I’m not condoning any of it, Philippa. I still believe Keir was treated appallingly, and trust has been badly damaged. I’m simply choosing to scrutinise Andy’s actions rather than remain trapped in the anger. He has not earned my trust. He now has to prove whether he deserves any of it.

@TomSoede @SheronWilkie Why condone treachery, the lies and misleading information. Regardless of what anyone thinks about Starmer, how can politicians who did this ever be believed or trusted?

I need to be clear. I might lose followers over this. I understand why many Labour members are angry. They paid their membership fees and wanted a say. I wasn’t happy with how it unfolded either. But procedurally, there wasn’t a membership ballot because: Keir Starmer resigned. Andy Burnham secured the backing of enough Labour MPs to become the only nominated candidate. No other candidate qualified for the ballot. So what exactly would members have voted on if there was only one candidate? You may not like the process. I understand that. But those were the party’s rules. We need to move forward now. Because the alternative is spending years fighting each other while Reform and the Conservatives benefit. I admired Keir’s leadership. Politics has a habit of surprising us, so who knows what the future holds. In the meantime… I’ll be in Clacton supporting Count Binface. Yes, really. 😊

A humble view on the Labour members If you have given up your Labour membership you are not thinking it through. We loved Keir ! I understand that. But if you want to rejoin you will need to wait 6 month to be able to vote. Do you want the Reform or the Conservatives ! Let’s all stay calm

I understand the anger, William. I share much of it. But “no matter how good he is” is where I part company. I will not give Andy a blank cheque—but I will not condemn every future decision before he has made it either. He has to earn my trust. And I intend to judge him very closely.

@TomSoede Honestly, no. I’m afraid I no longer feel part of the Labour family. I come from a long line of Labour supporters from a small mining community in Northumberland but this is not the Party my grandparents fought for!

I can’t tell you exactly why Keir resigned, Jane. I wasn’t in the room - and neither were you. I do believe he was placed under intolerable pressure, and I remain angry about how he was treated. But that is separate from the procedure. Once Keir resigned and only one candidate cleared the threshold, there was no membership ballot. We can condemn what happened to Keir without inventing facts we cannot prove.

@ali__samson @SheronWilkie I wasn’t reducing the facts to feelings. I was recognising the feelings those facts created. People felt shut out, angry and betrayed because of what happened. That matters too. Facts explain the event. Feelings explain the damage. Just me - Thomas

Andy, This One Won’t Be Solved with Rolled-Up Sleeves Keir built the execution machine. Andy will inherit it, put his name on the bonnet and probably tell us he has reinvented government. Fine. Let him. But @RichardBurgon and Imram Hussain MP, backed by 80 other MPs and peers, have now raised the question that really matters: Will Britain uphold international law when doing so becomes politically uncomfortable? They are calling for sanctions, an end to trade with illegal settlements, suspension of the UK–Israel trade agreement and an end to arms transfers that may help sustain an unlawful occupation. This is where Andy’s speeches meet reality. He talks a great deal about courage, challenging the establishment and doing politics differently. Good. Now do it. Will he confront Israel’s hard-line Zionist government and apply the same standards Britain demands elsewhere? Or will we get another review, another carefully polished statement and another appearance with the sleeves rolled up? That is my test of Andy. Not the slogans. Not the inherited successes. @TomSoede One thing the labour party excels at is ripping itself apart. The tories are great at it during a leadership campaign but often better at coming back together as a party, even if it is superficial. Labour can't afford 2 spend years bickering internally, there is to much at risk

Andy Burnham settles into his chair on a quiet Sunday morning. Coffee in hand. For once… Silence. Ping. “Andy… can we talk?” Ping. “Urgent.” Ping. “Please answer.” He ignores them. Then… 📞 Wes Streeting calling… Against his better judgement, Andy answers. “Andy… don’t answer your phone. Whatever you do, don’t answer anyone else. They’re all looking for you. I’ve had 17 calls already. They’re panicking…” Andy hangs up. Looks at his coffee. Looks at his phone. Ping. Lucy: “Where are you?” Ping. David: “Need five minutes.” Ping. Angela: “👀” Ping. Pat: “Call me.” Ping. Cabinet Office: “Please confirm your availability.” Ping. “Andy?” Ping. “Please pick up.” Ping. “This is important.” The phone doesn’t stop vibrating. His coffee goes cold. His smartwatch politely informs him his heart rate is “higher than normal.” He loosens his tie. Wipes his forehead. Stares at the phone. 7,000 unread messages Then quietly mutters… “I knew I should have gone to the cricket. I just wanted to build a bus system”. Just me, Thomas.
