I’m not a crusty old man when it comes to baseball players having fun while playing the game they dedicated their whole life to, but this play by Elly De La Cruz bugs me. You can even tell Jonathan India was annoyed it.

@FounderDad @educator4ever36 Most middle schools have a Core teacher - history/English and a math/science teacher. Then one of the teachers usually does an elective. Seeing another pe teacher is no big deal.

Middle school is where kids get lost. The research is clear. One adult who actually knows them has the ability to change the outcome - regardless of home life or background. Twenty teachers and a sea of kids? The math no longer works. The transition from elementary to middle school is one of the most researched inflection points in education. GPA, attendance, and engagement all drop and rarely recover later. Chronic absenteeism accelerates in middle school. And once a kid is chronically absent in 6th grade, the dropout risk in high school spikes dramatically. Boys specifically fall off harder and earlier than girls. The gender gap in reading, math and academic engagement widens significantly in middle school. The information is known. And what has the system done for generations? Introduced class-to-class middle school earlier and earlier. The programs that are winning are those who do it the other way around and go back to one class room, one set of students and, if necessary, the teacher rotates, but the kids have a home room teacher who knows them, and cares about them, and is responsible for their success. The conversation we should be having is making grade school structure the standard.

I think it’s time we eliminate the current middle school concept and figure out a different grade configuration that makes sense for teens.

It’s possible, of course, that this is just a product of me being cheap and my brain always saying “look I paid for this, I’m gonna watch ALL of it!” 😂

Unsolicited sports opinion: I think it’s odd when people leave games early if their team is trailing. I don’t mean if they have to get the kids to bed or whatever. I just mean when there’s no particular reason you need to be home and you’re like “ehh I’ve had enough.”

The problem with High Speed rail is that even if we did give them $126 billion, I have such a low confidence that it would still get done. It’s not the money I’m worried about, it’s about actually get big projects built in a timely manner.

@AthleteDefender Playing sports in college is not a right. Every person has challenges. The waiver would need to be granted to everyone. 4 years only for competition. One redshirt or emergency year. One transfer.

No waivers is a terrible idea. There is no one size fits all in life. People get sick, people have family circumstances, and extraordinary circumstances can arise. What if a student-athlete gets cancer while in school? No waiver for him or her? These extremes are ridiculous.

Older generations say “we all struggled in our 20s.” No, you didn’t. You didn’t pay $3200 for rent and $10 for eggs. You didn’t graduate into $50K student debt and $0 job security. Gen Z isn’t dramatic. They’re drowning.
