Native habitat restorer, arborist, green issues. How much more of nature do we need to degrade to perpetuate our standard of living?

Oil is trading at more than $100/barrel with supply volatility continuing. Could this be the moment for significant migration to EVs globally? Looking at the table below of EV market shares worldwide, it’s impressive to see Norway at 97% despite being Europe’s largest oil producer. In China, the world’s largest vehicle market, EVs have a huge 53% market share. Not surprisingly, in the U.S., EVs account for only 10% due to unique set of local circumstances (the U.S. is the world’s largest oil producer, EV incentives have been eliminated, the EV infrastructure is still relatively limited except Tesla’s, etc.). Therefore, Americans have been reluctant to adapt EVs compared to other wealthy countries. Irony: EV pioneer and global market leader—Tesla headed by @elonmusk—is an American company which should be incentivized more by the U.S. if America expects to lead in new technologies which EV is an integral part. Africa: The vast majority of African countries are net oil importers and their economies are at the mercy of global oil markets over which they have no control. One African country, Ethiopia, a large oil importer, took a major policy decision in 2024 by being the first country in the world to ban imports of fuel powered vehicles. As a result, today, 100% of vehicle imports are EVs (including hybrids) saving the country significant FX and reducing supply chain volatility. Since electric costs in Ethiopia are amongst the cheapest in the world, at between $0.005 to $0.013 per kWh, sourced 99% from renewables (primarily hydro) it was a very smart forward looking policy decision made before the current global oil price increases and supply disruptions. Ethiopia has also been making significant investments in EV infrastructure such as fast charging stations (picture on the right). Perhaps other African countries and beyond, even oil producers, could follow Ethiopia’s lead. Nigeria Kenya South Africa Tanzania Uganda Rwanda
#Krill A humpback whale lies fatally injured on a krill trawler. They threw the whale back into the ocean to die slowly as they resumed sucking the life out of the Antarctic Ocean. Krill fishing must be stopped. Like to help? Sign the petition in this thread👇

Spring migration is a deadly gauntlet. Each year, 25M birds are killed by illegal poaching. CABS is hitting the front lines in Malta, Italy, Greece & Cyprus to dismantle traps and film poachers. 🎗️ donorbox.org/help-stop-ille…

Human arrogance towards nature is despicable. We treat Earth like a disposable resource, yet we've already lost 68% of wildlife populations since 1970. Nature doesn't need us. We need nature. Time to drop the superiority complex. #EndArrogance #ClimateAction
@factpostnews First sewage and now PFAS. It’s a damn death cult.
