A spectacular monchiquite dyke at Kilchattan on Colonsay. 4 cm biotites plus ultrabasic upper mantle xenoliths. Monchiquites are low-silica, highly potassic, feldspar-free lamprophyres. Now dated at 284 Ma (Permian) but originally dated at 125 by Arthur Holmes way back in 1941.
