Sad to report the death of Cornellian Roger Payne, PhD '62, who discovered whale song in 1967. His recordings are the bestselling nature record of all time and were used in Star Trek IV and on the Voyager Golden Record. This helped end commercial whaling. usnews.com/news/best-stat…

When the Eight Square Schoolhouse teacher greets @IthacaNYSchools fourth graders arriving to @DiscoveryTrail @TompkinsHistory they first learn about the American flag from 1892. Then they experience how to raise it with respect, if the weather conditions permit #kdtithaca2023

Tina Turner performed at Cornell's Barton Hall on November 6, 1971, hosted by the Cornell Concert Commission in its second year of existence. The @cornellsun described the singing and dancing as "an exciting experience for the eyes as well as the ears."

.@southhillhawks Elementary School fourth graders participated in “Eight Square Schoolhouse: 19th Century Life” @TompkinsHistory Activities go on rain or shine. Here they pump water from the well, but plastic bags would not have been the way to stay dry in 1892!

Next week, a new roadside historical marker will be unveiled in Winchester, VA to recognize the Brown family, including sisters Sara W. Brown (Class of 1897) and Nancy F. Brown (Class of 1899), who were among the first Black women to graduate from Cornell. winchesterstar.com/winchester_sta…

Thanks to the marvelous staff at @CornellRMC (my brother) for hosting two days of #AMST2001 students to view treasures from the University Archives. As we looked at the poster, one student noticed today was the 62nd anniversary of Martin Luther King's 1961 campus visit!
