At 105, Marie is Queensland’s oldest RAAF nurse - and this year she’s returning to Anzac Day. The Gatton local met her husband Ian while treating him after he was injured while serving as a tail gunner in WWII. He proposed six weeks later but Marie said she’d only marry him when the conflict was over - two weeks later it was. In 1990, on the 75th anniversary of Anzac Day, Ian suffered a stroke which led to further medical complications. The couple were married for 62 years when he passed away. This year - after a 36 year break - Marie will be leading the parade at Gatton tomorrow. She’s doing it for her husband and for all the other men and women who served our country.
