15 March 1942. The experimental Jumo 004A jet engine was flight tested on a Messerschmitt Bf 110. The tests continued until two more 004A's were fitted to the Messerschmitt Me 262 V3 for its first flight on 18 July 1942.

Japanese destroyers going into the Battle of the Java Sea on 27 February 1942. The photo was taken from the destroyer Ushio and shows destroyers Sazanami, Yamakaze, and Kawakaze steaming behind her. The destroyers are in the process of laying down a smokescreen. These destroyers were attached to the main unit of the Japanese Fleet, accompanying the cruiser Haguro as well as the cruiser Nachi which was serving as the flagship under Rear Admiral Takeo Takagi. The destroyers themselves did little to contribute to the battle itself, but they did screen the two cruisers that did the bulk of the fighting.
