NCP has gone into administration. They’ve been running car parks since 1931, and somehow ended up £305m in debt. Surely the maintenance for a car park is simple: ticket machines, barriers, lights, and occasional cleaning. How can a business model literally based on people paying to park go bankrupt?

@GerryThorne @WallpaperKeith @Tony_Royle It is a fact. Car parks in the 80/90s were not designed with a factor of safety like we design for now and were designed for a max 2.5kN/m. Now car parks need to be designed for between 3 and 4kN/m. Cars in the 90s were around a tonne now Evs are 1.5 to 3 tonne

@Tony33uk @WallpaperKeith @Tony_Royle It’s not a fact at all .. it’s almost entirely misinformation with most modern car parks having loads of built in safety resilience ..it’s also a fact that modern EVs are not actually heavier than most modern SUVs.there are loads of ways of protecting older car parks if concerned

I see NCP in the UK has allegedly folded. There has to more to this than meets the eye ... this outfit owns land and buildings on prime sites in every major city in the country and charges a fortune to park ... and it's often impossible to find a space; doesn't add up.
