I transferred out of the PCA into the CREC as an evangelist under the oversight of All Saints Presbyterian in 2020. I received the following from the Clerk of Calvary Presbytery (PCA): "October 23, 2020 Rev. Foster, Calvary Presbytery has dismissed you from membership according to BCO 38.3.a. (The PCA only recognizes transfers between PCA Churches so this is the ordinary method of response to your request). The vote was unanimous, and I read a selected portion of your email to the brethren - yesterday at the Autumn meeting- which was well received. Thank you for your labors in the PCA. We send with you our brotherly affections and charge you to make your new place/people/parish of call better... by God's grace." So, I asked to be transferred out of the PCA and left on the best terms allowed by the BCO, given I was transferring outside of NAPARC. East River, then, was begun as a church plant of All Saints (CREC) that was carried out under the oversight of Rev. Gregg Strawbridge. That work began in earnest in December of '20. We particularized as a congregation in April '22. In July of '24, East River session and congregation voted to resign our church's membership in the CREC because they amended its constitution to require sessions to practice paedocommunion in some cases of transfer members. This would require us to violate our vows to uphold standards (which included) and our constitution (which explicitly forbade paedocommunion). We tried to stop it. We were unable. We pursued an appeal. We failed. We then followed their Book of Procedures and left as respectfully as we could. It wasn't what we wanted, but it's where we landed. And we did everything by the book. As an independent church, we set a 3-year timeline to decide on some form of affiliation and established an accountability board to which members could appeal any judicial action taken by the session or submit a complaint regarding the fitness of a session member. We then immediately started exploring options. After 1 1/2 years, we decided the wisest thing for now is to simply formalize the already existing relationship we have with our two church plants and a few regionally located ones. That's it. We followed the rules. We never got disciplined. It had an unfortunate outcome. We are not going to submit ourselves to corrupt and/or toothless courts, but we will pray for those who have the institutional powers to do something about it. May God give them strength to do it! Guys like Timothy are well-intentioned but ultimately clueless young men. I hope he can bring this vigor into session and committee meetings.

A few weeks ago I wore my Wembley Endangered Species series vintage tie with Hawks on it when I went to church. As I walked up to the church building I heard a hawk, walked behind the building, and locked eyes with a Hawk. Like he knew I was wearing it. This last Sunday there were several Hawks around the church as I left with my family. I don't know what this means.

@resisfertile @jason_howerton We’ve done nearly everything we can to not put our kids on antibiotics. I’m very grateful to my parents for doing the same. I’m in my mid-30s and have never taken one. Very thankful l.

Here is what few will tell you... the reason they keep having them is you keep treating them with antibiotics... You put them on a hamster wheel that keeps short circuiting their bodies ability to learn to fight the infections... and perhaps have 2ndary factors like poor diet, etc. contributing to it all. I had this issue as a kid... and my mom finally fixed it when she let me naturally have to fight it off and get better. Then poof... no more constant strep infections.

I'm going to several docs/specialists, but has anyone ever dealt with recurring strep infections in their kids? My 8 year old has had it probably 4 times the last 9 months. Feeling anxious about helping him... We're visiting an ENT and immunologist. Anyone been through this?

Michael and I go way back, almost 20 years now. When he was trying to decide between a couple different cities to plant in, we really pushed for Cincinnati, and we were pleased when he planted a church not far from UC. He was still very much in that Acts 29, Sojourn, Keller-esqe sort of mold that so many of us were in at the time, but I had already had it and moved on. Michael took a few more years to get there. I’m sure there were multiple reasons, but there’s one I want to highlight. He’s a very patient man who goes out of his way to give people the benefit of the doubt. Wherever I was ahead of him, it took me a while to catch up to him in that area. I’m ready, fire, aim… more of a shotgun. Michael is a sniper. He likes to take his time, get in position, zoom in, and take the shot he knows is the kill shot on the right target. The reason I bring this up is that there is not a shock-jock bone in Michael’s body. He comes to his conclusions as a careful man with a shepherd’s heart. Loser Theology is quite the title. It definitely gets your attention, and that’s what good titles are supposed to do. I know how lazy critics can be, and I think some will latch onto the title in our age of bombast and over-the-top rhetoric. But that is not this book, because that is not this man. This is a careful dissection of the theology that so many of us have been frustrated by, theology that arose from decades of compromise and biblically fallacious thinking. I think this is a book you should order because Michael has carefully considered the world around him, put names to things you’ve experienced but perhaps haven’t been able to identify, and shown what Scripture actually calls the disciples of Jesus to.
