A pitch will be rated below average if any one of these issues is present The uneven bounce would be my concern. Examples from real assessments (including disciplinary cases) have included descriptions such as: A lot of deliveries staying low, with some also rearing up Batters never feeling “in” Consistently irregular bounce at both ends Significant frequency and severity of surface indentations or crumbling on a length A few isolated variable balls would normally still fall under “occasional.” Once variable bounce becomes a recurring feature that makes batting markedly more difficult or unpredictable (without necessarily being dangerous), it crosses into “more than occasional.” Penalty would normally be 2 points A defence is that the best possible pitch was prepared. We successfully appealed a below average pitch rating with this defence.

I’ve gone through ‘enemy lines’ to check out Farington today ahead of the second @York_C_C tomorrow. Very positive so far. Stewards shepherding folk from the Leyland bus to the ground ( 2 minute walk), friendly staff inside the ground…..
