Is there a disconnect between #Flyers management and Rick Tocchet this season on Matvei Michkov’s ice time/usage? #Flyers President Keith Jones went on the PHLY Flyers (@PHLY_Flyers) podcast yesterday during the carnival and shared that Rick Tocchet and the coaching staff need to be reminded about playing young players during a “rebuild.” Keith Jones: "It's important that we keep reminding them (the coaching staff) to play our young players and involve them in the process of getting better. I mean that's the only way they do get better." Rick Tocchet was on PHLY as well and appeared agitated again that he’s still getting asked questions about Matvei Michkov’s ice time: “So you think he should get it because he’s earned it?…I’ll be very frank, I’m a very frank guy honestly, I go down swinging. Matvei did not come into camp in shape.” Tocchet then went on to say he’s having a tough time making plays…taking a guy 1 on 1, coming out of the corner with a puck, making a play off the rush etc. It’s February 2nd. It’s been 137 days since the start of training camp and we’re 54 games into the regular season. Michkov has been averaging more 18-20 and 20-22 MPH speed bursts than he did last season. Hard to believe he’s not in shape in right now.
