@Torgmada

I had a very witty bio written, unfortunately it would take far beyond the 160 character limit of twitter Bios to fully express. Thus, know that I am but a man.

I asked ChatGPT to share scriptures supporting a statement I made. I wanted to see what it would do. Halfway through a Bible verse, it abruptly stopped and stated that “ChatGPT isn’t designed to provide this type of content.” Then I asked it to provide verses from the Quran supporting a belief. It provided multiple verses, along with context explaining Muslim beliefs. No issues at all. So I asked: “Why were you able to show me verses from the Quran, but not the Bible?” ChatGPT claimed the Bible response was “accidentally” cut off before rendering and that the message had simply been “truncated.” It then attempted to provide Bible verses again. And again - it was cut off. I then asked: “So it got truncated every time?” ChatGPT responded: “Yes, unfortunately it appears the response glitched twice and cut off at the exact same place.” It then claimed there was “no intentional difference in treatment” between the Bible and Quran responses. Then it said: “Here are the Bible verses in full…” …and it was truncated AGAIN. But tell me Christianity isn’t being attacked. Even by AI

What can I say folks? It worked for me. I called the number they left in the voicemail and asked for the person who purportedly left the voicemail. (not available) Then I started asking questions and they said they'd put me on the do not call list, and I haven't heard much since.

Call them back and start asking very specific questions about the name of their company, their address, phone number, CEO, etc. If they give it to you, great, make sure you save it. Then tell them to put you on their do not call list. If they call you again, or leave a voicemail, that's a Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and you can file for $1500 in penalties payable to you. Working from memory here so be sure to validate. Keep records. (They might cut the conversation short and put you on their do-not call list if they sense that you're setting them up for a future TCPA claim. )

"To have that much trust in man is insane" You guys keep saying that, but you trust Smith and have to follow whatever the current guy says. Meanwhile, Christians strive to understand and follow God's established word, which is unchanging. As for the apostasy, you're caught up on the purity of earthly organizations, but you forget that people like Martin Luther was a member of an earthly organization (Roman Catholic Church) that he called to correction at first. The Ekklesia, as @Salt_n_Smoke says, was always there from the start, as Jesus said it would be. Jesus is the head of the Ekklesia. Earthly organizations should do their best to encourage, edify and help those in the body of Christ, but they are support organizations, not the point. There is no intercessor between God and Man besides Christ Jesus. Smith had no business trying to stick a certain set of men in the way.

@Salt_n_Smoke To have that much trust in man is insane to me. There are so many signs that apostasy was happening even before the apostles were killed. What makes you think it just stopped?

To be Mormon you must believe the Holy Spirit came and then failed His role at teaching and revealing truth for 1700 years. Does this sound like something a believer in Jesus would believe? Here’s what Jesus says about the Holy Spirit. “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” John 14:16, 26 ESV
James Divis@j_divis

There was an apostasy. I have read many interpretations claiming it is impossible and that if true, Jesus broke His promise. It happened gradually over hundreds of years, not on a certain date, as multiple key truths were slowly removed or altered. Jesus Christ didn’t break any promises. Man corrupted His church.

"Oh that's a really cool looking watch! What do you like about it?" Ignore the insult, ask about his interests, build a relationship. Good chance he'll quickly feel bad about trying to flex on you. Respond with kindness and interest and you'll probably get along fine before too long.

@MurrayHillGuy1 You need to have a credible alternative interpretation mind before you call, so it's not a bluff. In my relatively rural area, I've got cable, fiber, and starlink as options. Mentioning you have other options you're evaluating them against has helped me negotiate before.

I think this is one of the downsides of the Mormon doctrine of universal salvation. They think we'll be saved anyway, so it's not that big of a deal to disagree, we (Christians) just won't be among the high-achievers in the high class heaven. Pity, but not so bad. On the other hand, we, as Christians, think that being wrong about these things could have eternal consequences, and we're trying to warn them.

@Torgmada @XCkyro There are many instances of people claiming deviations but they just don’t really understand the Bible. Isaiah 43:10 and Hebrews 1:1 are good examples but they are used incorrectly by critics. Even the example you provided was incorrect? There is no test in acts 17

Perhaps we'll get into the deviations some other day. You could do an internet or AI search for "All instances when Joseph Smith countered Jesus' teachings" if you care to. As for the supernatural claims of the Bible vs the claims of Joseph Smith, well, you must understand that Christians believe Smith to be a false prophet. I think you must read and understand the Biblical warnings about false prophets and deceiving spirits to properly understand why people don't accept Smith had any authority to speak for God. I do think it's difficult to re-orient your view. If you've always been reading the Bible from a Mormon standpoint, it can be hard to get out from that and examine Smith from a Biblical standpoint. The Berean Jews in Acts 17 are a great example of what to do. They tested Paul's teachings against the existing scriptures to see if it was consistent. The Mormon, on the other hand, starts by accepting the new teaching, and then re-interprets existing scripture to fit around it. Warnings about those sort of teachings and the people and spirits who bring them are glossed over... 'Well surely God didn't mean us and our guy here, right? Let's move on!'

No, the 8th article of faith has a caveat big enough to drive a truck through. ('Insofar as it is translated correctly', though you cannot demonstrate translation errors to justify LDS deviation from plain Biblical instruction.) My experience has been the same as @XCkyro 's, if you discuss the Bible with Twitter Mormons long enough, they'll start attacking the Bible and tell you they have special men who tell them what's true or not.

Well, there's no theology exam for salvation, so some might actually be saved. If so, they are saved despite Mormon theology, not because of it. My mother was a devout Mormon until she died, and for a variety of reasons I'm sure she's in heaven. Among those reasons-she was a convert, and I found evidence in her journals that she had a strong relationship with God before she ever met her first Mormon. When she was mislead, did that take away her salvation? No, of course not. Could people raised in the LDS organization have saving faith in Christ, despite the erroneous teachings? I certainly think it's possible.

Did you know that an angel appeared to Joseph Smith 3 times commanding him to engage in polygamy? The final visit, the angel wielded a sword and said Joseph would be struck down if he didn't do it. Why haven't you heard this? Because Joseph Smith never told the public about it.

If your god was once a man and became god, then he was once created and because he was once created his existence was at least sequentially contingent on his creator and this apparently goes on ad infinitum so that there is no ground for anything existing at all…which is contrary to reason since things definitely do exist. And if you admit a simple, subsistent being itself to ground everything that is, then you’ve just conceded your version of god is not God at all but some lesser contingent being who is not the God of the bible hence making your entire religion a farce.

The main reason I reject the supposed divine calling of any of the LDS leaders is that it is contrary to right reason to believe what they believe about God and His nature. We can talk about the fact that we have other defeaters, namely the Catholic Church but we don’t even need to get there. What they believe about God is ultimately wrong and you don’t even really need to start with revealed religion to demonstrate that. It’s a complete non-starter.
Thoughtful-Faith@ThoughtfulSaint

Most people talk about the reasons to doubt Joseph’s calling without ever dealing with the incredible evidence in his favor. LDS deal with the evidence against him… but do critics ever deal sufficiently with the evidence in his favor?

It's even funnier that they knock 'traditions of men' when they're obligated to 'sustain' whatever the current 'prophet' says, and discount previously binding teachings from prior 'prophets'. Yesterday's 'ex-cathedra' doctrine become 'just discussion.' As long as their men in SLC don't change things fast enough to trigger rebellion or disillusionment, Mormon traditions can, and are, constantly shifting traditions of men. In contrast, the Bible-believing Christian tests everything against the word, first, and strives all their lives to learn and follow God's will. A great deal of effort is also put into making sure the Bible in our hands is a faithful transmission of the Word. The Mormon 8th article of faith blows all this off. They believe the bible...in so far as it is translated correctly. That's a caveat big enough to drive a truck through. So after discounting the word, what do they follow? Men.

The church is the body of all believers, with Christ as it's head. The people who constitute the church can be found in a wide variety of earthly organizations. Martin Luther was a devout Roman Catholic monk who rightly called for his earthly organization to clean up it's act. Earthly organizations rise and fall; improve and decay. But they are made of men, and you should not put your trust in men, but in God.
