@GoWithJordan_ Oh I’ve felt gaslit by every Calvinist apologist that I have ever interacted with, Calvinists are really famous for this actually.

Why are there so many claims of being gaslit in the LDS church and from people who deal with LDS apologists? Ive never been accused of gaslighting nor have I heard complaints from evangelicals or former evangelicals of feeling gaslit. Could it be that actual gaslighting is going on?

@jacelala Ironically, I’m always told by trinitarians that prayer is not a reliable source of theological truth and that I need to find it in the Bible. Where does the Bible teach the trinity? The experts in the Bible I listen to say it was made up centuries later.

I prayed about the Trinity and received multiple answers about its truthfulness. I prayed about the Book of Mormon (as a devout Mormon) and never received anything but confusion and darkness
Guy Incognito@GuyInco15542744

If you haven’t read the Book of a Mormon; you haven’t investigated it and you aren’t qualified to to voice an opinion on its veracity. You haven’t looked at the evidence. I’d you attempt to claim otherwise, you’re just lying to yourself

@MissRed_Roses @Faustzme Great answers here, I’m curious if you follow the missionary discussions YouTube channel, Travis breaks this down to an evangelical critic. The whole premise of the question being asked to Jesus presupposes that marriages exist after death

@daveypgh @GoWithJordan_ So true, for the overwhelming majority of Christian’s all the Old Testament is is just a few stories and a handful of verses they use for proof texting.

@TylerSmith9339 @GoWithJordan_ Don’t bother - these people don’t really read the OT, other to prooftext here and there. They’re spiritually anemic, hence they can’t even see the contradiction with what they’re saying. For instance, Joseph used an divination cup etc

"And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light." 2 Corinthians 11:14 Which is interesting because this verse comes right after Paul talks about those who preach a different Christ than the one the apostles preached... 2 Corinthians 11:4 For if someone comes and proclaims another Jesus than the one we proclaimed, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or if you accept a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it readily enough.
Thoughtful-Faith@ThoughtfulSaint

This guy thinks Satan wrote this haha ——- “And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, and we prophesy of Christ, that OUR CHILDREN may know to what SOURCE they may look for a remission of their sins… And now seeing that ye know the light by which ye may judge, which light is the light of Christ, I beseech of you, that ye should search diligently in the light of Christ…; and if ye will lay hold upon every good thing, and condemn it not, ye certainly will be a child of Christ.” - The Book of Mormon

@Slave_ofTheLamb @PetGorilla You don’t think that’s the end of public revelation do you? It simply cant mean that because we literally have more written after that in the New Testament.

@TylerSmith9339 @PetGorilla Jude 3 Beloved, being very eager to write to you of our common salvation, I found it necessary to write appealing to you to contend for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.

@Slave_ofTheLamb @PetGorilla There is nothing anywhere in the New Testament precluding later revelation, that’s not stated or even implied anywhere.

@TylerSmith9339 @PetGorilla They all prophesied until John. Can you explain why Joseph Smith is an exception? Is "The apostles placed hands on me 1700 years after the last one died" a work-around? Just curious. Thanks.

@GoWithJordan_ So the Book of Mormon is not a supernatural product but it exists due to supernatural influence? I’m not really following.

@Torgmada @XCkyro All they could have done is listen to the preaching of Paul, reread the passages of the Hebrew Bible he was citing and decide if they agree with his new interpretation. Protestants often appeal to this as if it’s some objective test, it isn’t.

I think my favorite Mormon gaslight tactic is when they make fun of the Bible to cover for the insane things Joseph Smith made up
Austen@ageewriter

@Torgmada @XCkyro There are many instances of people claiming deviations but they just don’t really understand the Bible. Isaiah 43:10 and Hebrews 1:1 are good examples but they are used incorrectly by critics. Even the example you provided was incorrect? There is no test in acts 17

Perhaps we'll get into the deviations some other day. You could do an internet or AI search for "All instances when Joseph Smith countered Jesus' teachings" if you care to. As for the supernatural claims of the Bible vs the claims of Joseph Smith, well, you must understand that Christians believe Smith to be a false prophet. I think you must read and understand the Biblical warnings about false prophets and deceiving spirits to properly understand why people don't accept Smith had any authority to speak for God. I do think it's difficult to re-orient your view. If you've always been reading the Bible from a Mormon standpoint, it can be hard to get out from that and examine Smith from a Biblical standpoint. The Berean Jews in Acts 17 are a great example of what to do. They tested Paul's teachings against the existing scriptures to see if it was consistent. The Mormon, on the other hand, starts by accepting the new teaching, and then re-interprets existing scripture to fit around it. Warnings about those sort of teachings and the people and spirits who bring them are glossed over... 'Well surely God didn't mean us and our guy here, right? Let's move on!'

@GoWithJordan_ “Turn to the true Jesus of scripture and the good news that Christ has done everything to secure your eternal life” how can you say this as a Calvinist? In your worldview he explicitly did not do that for many

Don't worry guys, if God needs to lie, hes capable of it.... Please turn to the truth guys. This is the nonsense you have to defend being lds... Turn to the true Jesus of scripture and the good news that Christ has done everything to secure your eternal life
🪔Heidi@hvworlton

I think God is capable of anything He needs to do. 🤷 God commanded Moses to lie to Pharaoh. Several times. God also commanded the killing of all the Canaanites And the Amalekites. The city of Jericho. The firstborn of all the Egyptians. It's like y'all don't read the Bible. My goodness.

@beetle67a @Rultpwr What in the world are you talking about? Our understanding of the fall is one of the most distinct and important parts of our doctrine. The fact you think it’s “heretical” is your own religious indoctrination. What exactly is “demonic” about the baptismal font? That was silly

The usual Mormon deflection. Always blame the victim for noticing. It's because they are lazy. It's all *their* fault. Here's the thing. You guys are not at all up front about a lot of things. Be honest: If you were to right away show prospective converts what they were getting into as honesty, informed consent and basic human decency calls for, things would not go well for you. Show them the blatantly heretical, laughably lame, and lobotimized Adam, Eve, and Satan movie from the Temple. Show them the temple itself. The Bloomingdales Tower of Babel. Somehow elegantish and tacky as hell at the same time. Tell them the price of admission is 10% of their income. Make clear what the Temple ceremonies entail. Show them the oxhead baptismal font, which almost all normal persons who haven't been through your slow reveal indoctrination are going to immediately and viscerally think: "demonic". Show them what their daily life schedule is going to look like. Be up front about all of this, and no one is ever going to go near you guys. Your whole sales pitch is based on total deception. People are not cool with that.

@BenBird53920553 I’m from Arizona and have known about this since I was a child. I’m really curious what things about your current faith you don’t know. Catholicism has way worse things in its past, do you just not know about those or are you more willing to explain those things away?

I served a Mormon mission from 2002 - 2004. None of us missionaries knew that Joseph Smith practiced polygamy. I was never taught that as a Mormon kid. I don't think I found out until I was in my mid-twenties, and I didn't find out about it at church. I found out about it online.
Thoughtful-Faith@ThoughtfulSaint

“Why haven’t you ever heard of this?” Maybe cause you never looked at what is literally right on our website. Hahaha (Seriously this is taught in all Church history classes)

@Torgmada @XCkyro I don’t know what “plain biblical instruction” that you are referring to that we deviate from. The supernatural claims of the Bible have nothing to do with translation, you just have to choose to believe them

No, the 8th article of faith has a caveat big enough to drive a truck through. ('Insofar as it is translated correctly', though you cannot demonstrate translation errors to justify LDS deviation from plain Biblical instruction.) My experience has been the same as @XCkyro 's, if you discuss the Bible with Twitter Mormons long enough, they'll start attacking the Bible and tell you they have special men who tell them what's true or not.
