You literally learn the foundations of cloud, data, AI, etc when you study for the Oracle certs…which is the same foundational information across other cloud vendors.

Everyone is saying, "Get Oracle certs." Get Oracle certs. No one's talking about building foundational skills that keep you employable when bubbles burst. What's the craze behind Oracle? It's compute. Guess who provides compute services - literally every cloud service provider. We need to shift the conversation from these surface-level topics to the deeper layers of abstraction. First principles will remain the same when Oracle's bubble bursts or the hype cycle comes to an end

I would like to see more of us taking advantage of opportunities like the under $15,000 masters in AI that schools like Georgia Tech and UT-Austin offer Those names on a resume do mean something, don’t let people lie to you that it doesn’t

@engineering_bae Demonstrate ROI to leadership, find ways to track KPIs for the ROI (time savings, revenue, etc). How are you incorporating it into workflow for whatever you are doing it? Think about AI Governance and Responsible AI, to many people are not focusing on reducing risk just ROI.

Can you land a AI/ML engineering role without a degree? Sure but are you willing to do what it takes to create exceptional credentials to make up for not having a degree? What makes you different from ex-Meta, ex-OpenAI, and MIT grads?

My issue with a lot of data career guides is that they cast a wide net of things to learn and over half the stuff isn’t necessary or relevant
Ex: This is a list I found of things needed for a (general) data analyst. XML??? Hadoop? Bokeh? Google and adobe analytics???

@venikunche Everyone is jumping in fast into chatgpt, all it takes is for sensitive data to be leaked. I’m sure there will be a company that inputs customer sensitive data like social security #s. Guardrails need to be put in place. All it takes is a multimillion dollar mistake to hit you.

@DataKimist While I like what I’ve learned in my courses for my masters in analytics, I understand the need for degrees to become more specialized with statistics and use of up to date tech.

@DataKimist As an aspiring data professional I have seen how underrated this is. Coding in itself doesn’t necessarily help anyone unless you are becoming a developer or software engineer. Coding is a tool to decipher through data to get an answer to a question. Domain knowledge is crucial.

@Uniquely_M0 @iamKierraD It’s fine so far as long as you have a good team for project. Yea we use some JavaScript with D3 and some Scala within Databricks. Not too bad, but I wouldn’t take this with any other course.

Anyone take time off work to fully pursue their masters? Mine is probably gonna be 100% online but im thinking about really immersing myself in the experience and taking time to fully study and learn.

Yeah...think Imma just go ahead and get a master's in CS from my Alma Mater and call it a day. It leans heavily towards AI/ML, super low cost for the value of the brand, top public school 10 in AI, and is theory & math based vs practical while still providing projects.

Looking at these other reputable schools data sci and ml ms programs and a lot of them seem to be focused on prestige without offering in depth & theoretical material. A lot are also still mostly in-person.

@iamKierraD So far so good, all online. Got to work with a variety of languages (scala, Python, R). Give you a choice of 3 tracks: business, analytical tools, computational.You take classes from 3 departments: business, computer science, and statistics.

@chrisalbon I would look at more than just price. Policies have impacted adoption. Major exchanges that hold the most liquidity have also complied with sanctions. This undermines Russians from moving their money into crypto.
