BYU’s goal was a FINAL FOUR run, and we failed. Utah’s goal was not to come in last place, and they failed too lol.

It's irrefutable that BYU's regular season and postseason prospects diminished drastically with season-ending injuries to three players who were either starters or top-eight rotation guys. You don't lose Richie Saunders, Dawson Baker and Nate Pickens without skipping more than a few beats. Their collective absence was a primary factor in BYU's mid-pack Big 12 finish and the main reason BYU was unable to make a deeper NCAA tournament run. Less-proven depth players were thrust into more demanding roles, and while those demands may have at times exceeded capabilities, BYU's late-season reset and rally reflected creative coaching and energized efforts from up and down the roster. 2025-26 was a season of unprecedented attention and expectation, keyed by by AJ Dybantsa's every-game brilliance. Nightly, we would watch his exploits and wonder "what next?" Yet as the season progressed, and the injuries mounted, we also thought "what if?" We all wish the Cougs' campaign could have have lasted longer, but Cougar Nation can be proud of a group that was forced to specialize in resiliency and reinvention. Yes. Absolutely zero question that the answer is yes. And the most obvious proof is Bruce Branch III committing to BYU. Dybantsa playing at BYU and having the season he had is going to pay so many long-term dividends for BYU even if the Saunders injury cratered this season.

I knew coming in I made the right decision ... everything about this place, I'm just happy. AJ chose BYU. He played all 40 minutes tonight. He ran the offense down the stretch while playing full court press defense, and scored 35 points to go with 10 rebounds. Left it all the line every night. He deserved this season to end better than a first round exit. 🐐🐐
