For the better part of the last 20 years I have served in callings where I do ecclesiastical interviews for BYU applicants, and am still doing so today in my current calling. I very directly tell BYU applicants: "You are voluntarily agreeing to live the Honor Code. If you go to BYU, don't complain about it or try to circumvent it. If you aren't fully committed to living the Honor Code, do yourself and everybody else a favor and DON'T GO TO BYU." I don't care if they are athletes, Fulbright scholars, or virtuoso musicians. The message is the same. I am a BYU graduate and will forever be grateful for the environment I experienced there. It was the result of being surrounded by thousands of my peers who almost to a person were striving to keep their covenants and live the Honor Code. Now, none were perfect, but almost all of the people I associated with at BYU were genuinely striving to do and be their best. I loved it! Prospective BYU students who aren't fully committed to living the Honor Code - athlete or otherwise - are almost always better served going somewhere else for their college experience.

Exactly right. There is a University of Utah for those- student or athlete- who aren’t committed to living the required standards to attend BYU.

Taysom Hill played many roles for the Saints. My favorite one: Falcons killer.

Four season-ending injuries. Not four injuries — four seasons ended. ​ A knee in the sixth game of his freshman year, right after he had won the starting job. A fractured leg five games into 2014, against the same opponent. ​ A Lisfranc fracture in the 2015 opener. Then a hyper-extended elbow late in 2016, closing out his college career. ​ In between he got one healthy year. In 2013 he threw for 2,938 yards and 19 touchdowns and ran for 1,344 more. ​ One full season out of five. ​ He had committed to Stanford to play for Jim Harbaugh. Then he left for two years on a mission in Sydney, Australia. ​ While he was gone, Harbaugh left for the NFL. He came home and enrolled at BYU in 2012. ​ In the spring of 2016 his older brother Dexter died. He changed his jersey from 4 to 7 to honor him, and never wore another number. ​ Nobody drafted him in 2017. He was twenty-seven years old. ​ Green Bay signed him in May. He played three preseason games. On September 2, they waived him. ​ On September 3 — the very next day — New Orleans claimed him off waivers. ​ He did not play until December. His debut was twelve special teams snaps against Carolina, and two tackles on the returner. ​ Quarterback. Running back. Fullback lead blocker. Wide receiver. In-line tight end. Special teams. The Saints press called him the Human Swiss Army Knife. ​ Nine seasons. 118 games. He started fewer than half and was never an All-Pro. ​ Then on December 21, 2025, thirty-six receiving yards against the Jets put him somewhere no player had ever been. ​ 2,426 yards passing. 2,551 rushing. 1,034 receiving. The only player in the Super Bowl era with a thousand of each. ​ Today he said goodbye, writing that he does not yet know what the future holds — only that returning to New Orleans is not in the cards. ​ Minutes after the Saints posted that statement, they released a tribute film of NFL Films quality, narrated by Drew Brees. ​ That is a sendoff normally reserved for a Super Bowl hero or a first-ballot Hall of Famer. He is neither. ​ Brees's words: "Forever a Saint. Forever a legend." Then, quietly, he thanked him by name. ​ Four ended seasons. Undrafted at twenty-seven. Waived. Claimed the next morning.
