Tours by Train

The train to Thurso takes us past acres of moorland and I look out for eagles and wild boar, but no luck. The guard tells me deer are often killed by running on to the track, I check the refreshment trolley anxiously. But it's only the usual egg sandwiches, no venison baps. ^VW

The union flag flutters gently in the breeze over Sheffield (Midland) station as people pass under the carved emblem of a wyvern, a symbol of the Midland Railway who built this station. ^PK #SouthPennineTour

The train is full and standing between Manchester and Sheffield, luckily your correspondent has a window seat and the Peak District is sliding past the window. The chap opposite has just opened a can of beer, my travelling water is in the overhead rack...

The young person sat by me has been explaining to parents #AcrossTheAisle about how how the Castlefield corridor is the most congested bit of railway in the world and that the parents could get Senior Railcards and save money on their upcoming trip to Bath. ^PK #SouthPennineTour
