(|*|) Different Blood does not mean different Love... (|*|) I would like to start this story by saying sorry that it took me so long to write it. I have been fighting with myself and thinking about the best way to honor those who mean so much to many of us. So instead of telling only them how I feel, I decided to share my thoughts and feelings with others like them. To know where I am coming from, we need to go back into my past. Not a long story, I promise you that much, but a little honesty from me to you. My parents divorced when I was little. I never really knew what went wrong between them growing up, but I loved them both the same. I wasn’t a perfect child, mind you. I did a lot of bad things for which a child, even grown up, should feel ashamed. That guilt I will carry with me for the rest of my life, but that is beside the point. My point being that no matter how hard and bad my relationship might be with my parents, I will never stop loving them. Both my dad and my mom—like them, I am not perfect. I am just human. I make mistakes and learn from them. They made a lot of mistakes too, yet they grew out of them and learned from them. They are amazing people, and I want them both to know that I love them deeply. But that’s not where my story ends, dear friends. There is another woman in this story without whom I wouldn’t have a chance to live the life I live today. She welcomed me into her life. A stranger, someone who meant nothing to her, yet she opened her doors to me and treated me like family. She was a mother to someone who didn’t deserve her love, yet she took care of me and helped me find my own path. Even though I was already in my adult years, I think that her care and love opened my eyes to the truth I was looking for my entire life. The truth is that no matter if you share blood with someone or if your DNA runs in theirs, what matters is the relationship you build and the trust you have for one another. She didn’t need to protect me. She didn’t need to stand up for me. She didn’t need to kick my round sorry ass when it needed to be kicked, but she did. That’s what real parents do. They cheer you up when you do good things, but are angry with you when you do something bad. It is understandable, and honestly, I am glad I was able to feel both happy and sad at the same time. I was able to find hope in a place that was unknown to me. Thanks to my step‑mom, I was able to start my life anew. I know that my dad had his hand in it, but it was my step‑mom who allowed me to stay here, and I will always be grateful for that and for being allowed to call her my mother. And to you, my dear readers, I would like to say: please tell your mothers that you love them. Especially the day after the special day that was made just for them. Tell your mothers—no matter if you share your blood with them or not—that you love them and care for them. We don’t live long, nor do they live until the end of the world. Our parents deserve to know how much we care about them. Especially our mothers, who watched us become the people we are today, who helped us come into this world, or who left everything behind just so we could live happy lives in the future. Ending this tale, I would also like to share one more thing with you. Love doesn’t last forever, nor is it something that everyone deserves, but our parents are still our parents, and they do deserve a second chance. It is up to them how they use it. Love your parents, love your fathers, love your mothers, and forever hold them in your hearts, as that’s the place where they deserve to stay for the rest of our lives.
