Starbase This Week (2026-05-03) | Written by @TheCosmicNebu1a SpaceX continues to prep Pad 2 and both vehicles for Flight 12, S40 heads to Massey’s for cryo testing, and the first of many notices has been posted this week. Welcome to this week’s Starbase This Week. Launch Site SpaceX’s focus this week has been on the GSE (Ground Support Equipment) of Pad 2. We have seen numerous deluge tests, including the top deck in what appears to be an effort to fix the issues they mentioned in the first episode of the Starship Documentary posted last week. They mentioned that for both B19 static fire attempts, that the GSE of the deluge called an automatic abort, and as such the increased testing may be an attempt to narrow down those issues. However that testing was not without its own issues, as during a deluge test on Saturday what appears to be a Gas Combustor had an energetic event and was flung high into the air, followed by the deluge shutting down. Pad 2’s Tower SQD (Ship Quick Disconnect) has also been put through its paces, with lots of retraction tests, as well as purging seen throughout the week. The SQD is one of the last unknowns for Flight 12 as a Booster has been tested on the OLM (Orbital Launch Mount), but a Ship has yet to be put on Pad 2. On Thursday, for the first time since Pad 2 has started testing we saw a synchronised retraction of the OLM Hold Down Arms as well as both BQDs (Booster Quick Disconnect). This is a key operation for Launch, as the timing is key to facilitate a clean liftoff. Pad 1 wasn’t spared from the action either, as the first steps towards upgrading the Pad to the same standard as Pad 2 have started. The GSE Bunker has begun construction with the steel frame beginning to take shape. Production Site B20 continues construction, with the Landing Tank Stand seen heading into MB1 on Wednesday, likely meaning that B20 is now fully stacked and ready for cryo testing in the coming weeks. S41 also progressed, with its N:7 section being added on Tuesday, and its A2:3 section later being added on Friday. Masseys Massey’s was relatively quiet this week, with the LOX Landing Tank lifted into the nosecone jail on Thursday, and B18.3 completing its 14th cryo test on Friday. S40 then rolled from the Production site on Saturday, despite the very bad weather at Starbase over the weekend. S40 will be paired with B20 for Flight 13, and both are shaping up to cruise through their testing campaigns, with SpaceX / Elon targeting a launch-to-launch of only a month. Other The first notice has been posted for Flight 12, showing off a new trajectory and providing us with some tentative launch dates. The Notice gives May 12th at 17:30 CDT as the primary launch date with backups May 13th through 18th. That is all for this week. How well do you think S40 will do during its testing campaign? Do you think SpaceX will hit their 1 month target for Starship Flight 13 after Flight 12? We’ll see you next week for yet another Starbase This Week. STARBASE PAD 2 SHIP QUICK DISCONNECT ARM TESTING Another round of Pad 2 SQD testing is underway! So far, the SQD unit has been retracting/extending multiple times, venting has been seen coming from the SQD plate, and venting has also been seen coming from slightly further back in the arm as well! @NASASpaceflight | nsf.live/starbase

Starbase This Week (2026-04-26) | Written by @Space_Mr_Banana SpaceX is readying Booster 19 and Ship 39 for flight 12, they released a Starship three-years of flight anniversary video and are full steam ahead on stacking the vehicles for future flights! Welcome to this week’s Starbase This Week. Launch Site Starting over at the launch site, SpaceX is doing further testing of the tank farm, pad, and tower ahead of flight 12. On Saturday, the tower vent started indicating that teams were about to test the Ship side of the tank farm up to the Ship Quick Disconnect (SQD), and sure enough, an hour or so later, the lines on the SQD arm were frosty. This means that super-chilled cryogenic propellant was running through the fuel lines. All the lines from the tank farm to the pad and tower need to be 100% tested and leak checked before flight 12, so that the number of issues can be minimised. This likely won’t be the last time they do a test like this with the tower and SQD arm without a vehicle stacked on the pad. Once the flight 12 vehicles, Ship 39 and Booster 19 are at the pad and stacked. SpaceX is expected to conduct at least one full wet dress rehearsal (WDR) to verify that all the systems on the pad, tower, and tank farm work together. Production Site Last week, the Pez dispenser for Ship 41 rolled out from Starfactory to MegaBay 2. This week, SpaceX rolled Ship 41’s nosecone and payload section to the MegaBay to join S39 and S40, officially beginning the stacking of the Ship for flight 14. Before flight 14, however, we need to launch flight 13 first. The Booster 20, the first stage designated for flight 13, now has all its barrel sections inside MegaBay 1 with the rollout of its hotstage ring (forward section) and F3 section, so SpaceX can stack the vehicle and prepare it for its cryo testing campaign. Ship 40, the other vehicle for flight 13, may soon be ready to roll out for its first testing campaign over at Massey’s, as it has been sitting in MegaBay 1 for a while now. So hopefully S40 and B20 will both be well into testing by the time flight 12 comes around. Masseys There isn’t a lot to talk about over at Massey’s since S39 left the room, but there have been tests since. B18.3, the booster forward test article conducted two tests inside the can crusher with a ship aft mockup on top. If it weren't for B18.3 popping and partially collapsing at its common dome a couple of months ago, we would probably see this test article finished by now. But since it never got the opportunity to test the Block 3 hot-stage ring design, SpaceX repaired the tank and is finally testing with it again. Other This week saw the 3-year anniversary of Starship flight 1. Wow, it was a long time ago! For this 3-year anniversary, SpaceX released what appears to be the first of a series of “episodes” that will talk about the design and creation of Starship and all the hurdles along the way. The first episode in this documentary talked about the next generation of Starship, Block 3. And the challenges of creating a fully, rapidly reusable rocket and the ground equipment that needs to support it That is all for this week. How successful (or unsuccessful) do you think Flight 12 will be? And when will we see more episodes of SpaceX’s Starship documentary? We’ll see you next week for yet another Starbase This Week. STARBASE PAD 2 LAUNCH TOWER GSE TESTING Ground Support Equipment (GSE) testing of the Starbase Pad 2 Launch Tower is currently underway! We currently see the Liquid Oxygen (LOX) side of the tower venting, along with frost appearing on the LOX supply line. We also expect to see frost start to appear on the Liquid Methane (LCH4) supply soon! This is part of the testing that needs to be performed to bring the Launch Tower fully online ahead of full stack testing and launch. @NASASpaceflight | nsf.live/starbase

Three years since the first flight of Starship, the next generation is here. New ship. New booster. New engines. New pad and new test site. SpaceX engineers are working to solve one of the most difficult engineering challenges in history: developing a fully, rapidly reusable rocket
