#ONStorm #ONwx ⚠️ BLIZZARD RISK TONIGHT 📅 Friday, January 12, 2024 FULL FORECAST: instantweatherinc.com/ontario/foreca… —— We've received many inquiries about the expected start times for the upcoming blizzard in different regions. Here's a region-based breakdown of the estimated timing. Please note that these are estimates, and actual start times may vary by a few hours. However, this should give you a general idea of when to expect the worst conditions. The blizzard is expected to begin in Deep Southwestern Ontario in the late afternoon or early evening. Areas like Windsor, Chatham, and Sarnia will likely see conditions worsen between 5-7 PM. Once the blizzard conditions arrive, they will last for one or two hours before gradually reducing in intensity with moderate snow continuing into Saturday. Although the wind will remain a concern throughout the night so expect some blowing snow. As the heavy snow band moves northeast, it will reach the London, Kitchener, and Goderich area shortly after dinner. The GTA, Hamilton, and Niagara regions should brace for the blizzard around 8-9 PM. Note that some of these areas might have mixed precipitation, which could reduce the severity of the blizzard. Later in the evening, Central Ontario, including Simcoe County, Kawartha, Peterborough, and Muskoka, will experience heavy snow and strong winds. This is expected to start between 9-10 PM in the south and around 11 PM in the northern areas. Eastern Ontario, including Kingston and the Ottawa Valley, will likely see the blizzard start around 10 PM and around midnight, respectively. Since it's not feasible to include every location in our graphic, we recommend using the closest listed location for guidance. Stay safe! Once again, Kingston’s Air Quality Health Index is at 11 or higher (chart doesn’t go higher). By another measure, the Air Quality Index, Kingston currently has North America’s worst air quality, at a “Hazardous” level of 465 as of 8am.

A blanket of heavy smoke covers Kingston amid forest fires north of the city. As of 10am, the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks has set #ygk’s Air Quality Health Index at 9, indicating a high risk.

Friday February 17: due to road conditions and current freezing rain conditions, all school transportation is cancelled for the day .

Road Closure: Bayridge Drive between Roosevelt Drive and Front Road closed due to complete white-out conditions and several vehicles in the ditch. Avoid the area.

If there are neighbouring multiple road closures and the pulling of snowplows from roadways due to safety concerns for these professional drivers, that’s your EXTREMELY STRONG message to stay home. Do not travel unless absolutely necessary.

⚠️ From OPP: “Hwy 401 remains closed throughout the area. Plows are working on the road but it is not open to traffic.”

⚠️ OPP say that earliest forecast for reopening of the 401 through our region will be 11:30am to 12:00pm. Plows will start at first light but will need time to clear the highway.

⚠️ Up to 8 VIA trains have been stranded overnight between Montreal and Toronto due to the storm.

Can’t say this strongly enough - this afternoon and evening will be one of the worst driving situations I’ve ever seen for the 401 east of Toronto through Kingston. Anyone on the road should be prepared to be stranded by blizzard conditions. #ONStorm

⚠️ I’m being told that, in a very rare move, OPP are now working to close off the 401 in both directions from Gananoque to Brighton, with on-ramp and off-ramp gates now being closed in Frontenac, L&A and Quinte West.
