Did you guys need a longfacebug? A longfacewaterbug at that? Here you go! Thank you for sharing this goofy Schnabelweirdo with us, Tim! :D

A Water Measurer (Hydrometridae). Spotted plenty of these tiny (~1cm) stick-insect like creatures under deadwood near water on my walk yesterday.

@TyraLindquist @ACNMtell @annieleibovitz @voguemagazine Yeah, and Liebovitz has it coming. Photography is about light, not dinge!

@rkellerp @CorrieMoreau That's wonderful Roberto, in this age of throw-away everything.

1. Make way for the king of the solar system! 👑
New Webb images of Jupiter highlight the planet's features, including its turbulent Great Red Spot (shown in white here), in amazing detail. These images were processed by citizen scientist Judy Schmidt: go.nasa.gov/3K9zMqC

@rkellerp @CorrieMoreau I love mine, also purchased from Lloyd. So durable!

@Ferox_Formicae Go for amazing, but take care. These are volatile times.

@Ferox_Formicae @Myrmecos There are things like this out there too: isu.wd1.myworkdayjobs.com/IowaStateJobs/…

I’m starting to get really worried that going into a science career is not a good option for me. I’ve been reading a lot about how terrible the pay is, and how bad of situations many scientists end up in. I’m assuming this also applies to museum curators (@Myrmecos ?)… 1/4
English

@Ferox_Formicae @Myrmecos Pay is related in part to how many degrees you have. You'll want at least a master's degree for somewhat livable pay. I would add that your illustration skills will definitely be a selling point. I suppose you could consider a commercial art position and do bugs on the side.

@myrmecoPhil Someone has come up with the rather silly name "thread-waisted ant" for Aphaenogaster. Thread-necked fits this one better. 🤓
English

@MCAsche @EntsocAmerica That baby katydid had me fooled for a moment.
English

@LMDiepenbrock I first saw one of these in Wisconsin, on a Florida car getting away from the madness.
English

@Ferox_Formicae I hear you. I'm not at all happy about the world my generation is leaving your generation. On the other hand, nature is resilient, and if we can change our ways, insects can make a good comeback.
