My massive article on Roblox Optimization is out! How massive? It has chapters! It comes with an uncopylocked game called Cardboard Box Simulator, which has been optimized to run at 60fps on low spec phones at full quality. It also contains a whole bag full of neat tricks and approaches for making your own builds run well. devforum.roblox.com/t/real-world-b… #Roblox #robloxdev

Today's shoutout to the past: Uberubert Uberubert is debatably responsible for bringing the Tycoon/Simulator genre to Roblox. Their tycoon games were the first big linear progression/"number go up" type games on the platform. Bread Factory Tycoon, released sometime late 2007.

Looking for old Roblox? I've just fixed some of my oldest games! Links below 👇 1. Gold Rush. From 2009! This very simple ride is finally working again. Track is ROUGH but this was 15 years ago! roblox.com/games/18336416… 2. Scattered. A 2013 game I made in 4 hours. And it's uncopylocked. :) roblox.com/games/19138286… 3. Equinox Hub. Also 2013. I've fixed the doors. These old trains teleport you to my other games. Fun fact, this was before we could upload music, so the music in here is a bunch of beeps making a song :) roblox.com/games/13545551… 🎢 Next up, these coasters were all made in 2010 and now they move again :) You may derail if you ride with friends, it's all physics! 💀 4. Jaws of Jurassic. I've placed a better VoteRegen system in and the VIP T-Shirt door works again. :) roblox.com/games/19138348… 5. Serpent's Revenge. New cart physics, finally running again. roblox.com/games/19138355… 6. Thunder Canyon. I first met @Defaultio here in 2010 and I couldn't believe he'd play a game I made! ❤️ roblox.com/games/19138227… 7. Rickety Rocket. A short but detailed track. Now operational again. roblox.com/games/19138290… 8. SnowStorm. My second ever coaster. Now with 100% more Yeti. roblox.com/games/19138192… 9. Gold Rush 2! A sequel to my first coaster from 2009. I cannot believe this ride is 14 years old, I still think it looks cool. Now operating again! roblox.com/games/19138343… 🙌 I also fixed character scaling, updated chat, added Console + VR support, and updated titles and descriptions for all of these games! 🫡 More to come. I'm tackling the rest of my games and I'll report back when they're ready. :) #Roblox #RobloxDev #OGRoblox

this isnt something players are gonna be excited for. nobody wants to "connect with brands" i hate how shareholders are more important to please than honest to god players

Today we announced that Roblox video ads are now available to any advertiser on the platform. This immersive ad format doesn’t require custom-built 3D content, and creates a scalable opportunity for brands to connect with Gen Z. brands.roblox.com

With Palworld quickly approaching the 1-month mark, it's interesting to look back at my own thoughts for launch. In May of 2023, I was convinced that Palworld could break the 50,000 player mark. Anything above that seemed unobtainable though, and I certainly never expected it to reach into the millions. It has taken years to get to this point, and Palworld only really begins from here. Everyone is working hard to fix the issues and prepare new content and Pals. Some of you may have had your fun over the last 3 weeks and found yourself putting the game down. That is fine. This emerging "Palworld has lost X% of its player base" discourse is lazy, but it's probably also a good time to step in and reassure those of you capable of reading past a headline that it is fine to take breaks from games. You don't need to feel bad about that. Palworld, like many games before it, isn't in a position to pump out massive amounts of new content on a weekly basis. New content will come, and it's going to be awesome, but these things take a little bit of time. There are so many amazing games out there to play; you don't need to feel guilty about hopping from game to game. If you are still playing Palworld, we love you. If you're no longer playing Palworld, we still love you, and we hope you'll come back for round 2 when you're ready. Play lots of games, try different genres, and frequently flick through indie libraries to find hidden gems.

"The line between good and evil runs not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties -- but right through every human heart -- and through all human hearts. This line shifts. Inside us, it oscillates with the years. And even within hearts overwhelmed by evil, one small bridgehead of good is retained. And even in the best of all hearts, there remains... an un-uprooted small corner of evil." - Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, Gulag Archipelago When I approach conversations with people, I think about the above passage a lot. It humbles me and it gives me hope.

Staying offline as of late but at the request of AI safety friends I'd like to draw attention to this. Everyone I know building AI/ AGI thinks it has a probability of ending civilization for one reason or another. Personally I'd agree with most ppl that an ai outright "killing us" a la terminator isn't super likely, but I do worry about second order effects if we aren't careful. (Mass mental problems, massive amounts of power conferred to a small minority - more-so than is already the case etc etc) The questions I personally would ask right now: - how do people find meaning in a world where so much is outsourced? What should a young person do right now as they figure out their career? Address hopelessness in the face of god-like tech. - assuming we don't have some amazing god-like benevolent agi in the near future, how do we improve quality control so we aren't even more inundated with code bloat etc? How do we incentivize the expertise needed in young engineers so they know how to avoid ai assisted code bloat? (For example) --> apply this reasoning to all kinds of sectors - how can we work harder to prevent everyone from burnout of their dopamine receptors? Even if we're all happily working *with* agi - how do we protect our brains? Cuz we're failing now. - in that vein: how can we start building low tech zones now? a lot of people would benefit from this economically but also psychologically. A lot of ppl clearly aren't able to adapt to perpetually online life. Will write more thoughtfully and with more ideas when I have a bit more time - I had promised to do this today so plz excuse any holes in my thinking etc. 🤍
