The Smithsonian is in the process of reopening and digital volunteering opportunities are now available on Smithsonian Transcription Center. Visit transcription.si.edu to find active projects and get started. Welcome back and happy transcribing!

Due to the government shutdown, we are temporarily closed beginning on Sunday, Oct. 12, along with Smithsonian museums, research centers, and the National Zoo. We do not plan to update social media other than to inform you of changes to our operating status.

@jacquelinecmary Ah, yes, the Lillian Evans scrapbook! Great project. This was probably reopened for light corrections last week, because it was originally transcribed in 2016! Keep an eye out for more projects from @SmithsonianACM later this year. transcription.si.edu/project/7957

@TranscribeSI The scrapbook from the African American woman in Washington DC in the 1910s.

There was a fascinating volunteer project posted on the Smithsonian Digital Volunteer site but by the time I got to it I was only able to help finish the final page of the entire project.

And so it has come to pass. Pre wiki I spent about 5 years transcribing field notebooks with the @TranscribeSI. Those transcriptions are now being uploaded into @BioDivLibrary to replace the useless OCR. This will allow those hand written field notebooks become much more usable!
