Riders, if you ever wonder why your bus is delayed with either longer travel or wait times, this image below is the main reason why and the most common. Complaining to your transit agency will not solve the problem unless you’re in favour or f prioritizing transit vehicles.
Toronto Poles and Dangling Wires@PolesWires

ZERO bikes were involved in this nightly car traffic jam on Spadina. Also tonight, 100 bikes passed me on my walk along Wellington from Bathurst to Spadina. That would have been 1 km of cars if they drove instead. Those clinging to cars, you’re welcome.

Torontonians don’t need more excuses — they need safer transit.  My plan is straightforward: police at every station, clear standards for cleanliness and lighting, and finally moving forward on platform doors. The time for delay is over — let’s get on with it.

Platform doors on the TTC would save lives and money. Why does it not have them? TL;DR or you can't get past the paywall Deaths caused by getting hit by TTC subway trains are almost always a suicide. People getting pushed onto tracks is very rare. Between 2020 and 2025, there were three such reported incidents. Accidental falls are almost as rare. It would cost $4.1 billion and take 20 years to install the doors across all 75 subway stations on Lines 1, 2 and 4. Because different TTC stations were built at different times using different methods, it would require seven different designs across the whole network. The city couldn’t install the barriers without “some pretty significant disruptions,” like station closures. It’s rare in North America for platform edge doors to be installed because of higher costs coupled with the deteriorating conditions of older transit systems. San Francisco and New York City have cancelled multimillion-dollar projects for such reasons. Weighing on the idea of platform doors is the cash-strapped TTC’s growing repair backlog — nearly $12 billion over the next 15 years, which has shown up in riders’ commutes as subway slow zones. There needs to be dedicated funding for transit safety from higher levels of government. We can't have everything especially given the TTC needs to deal with more pressing infrastructure issues like replacing track switches and buying new buses. thestar.com/news/gta/platf…

@moretransitso There are many factors that explain this. They include (but not limited to) TTC putting speed restrictions on its operators, too many stops spaced close together, lack of signal priority and left turning cars blocking streetcars just to name a few

Toronto takes pride in the fact that we saved our streetcars when most other cities got rid of them. However our streetcar network is now the slowest in the world, let's implement these changes to speed up the streetcars and make a network we can truly be proud of
FastTrackTO@FastTrackTO

FastTrackTO is launching and releasing our 10 point plan to fix the Toronto Streetcar network. A symbol of the city that could be great with achievable, common sense and low cost changes. The plan if implemented would transform the city. fast-track.to (1/2)

@CityNewsTO Metrolinx really has some sort of fetish for P3 projects given that they can’t seem to get along with their contractors. Dont be surprised if disputes with Alstom arise in the future.

Platform edge doors is something we all want. Mr. Bradford has failed to explain how he will fund the over $4 billion cost (not including cost overruns) to install them in addition to months/years of station closures.

When city hall pulled police patrols in the spring of 2023,Mr. Bradford made no statements about this pullback. And now Mr. Bradford is promising police patrols during an election campaign? ctvnews.ca/toronto/articl…

@jackhauen Metrolinx can’t seem to get along with anyone they work with. They can’t work with their contractors overseeing Toronto transit projects, its European partners do this project and now word that ATU local 1587 is looking to strike.

New: Metrolinx's plan to run more frequent, shorter GO trains is now “unlikely to materialize” after it fired the European partners who planned to make it happen, according to a draft of the agency's internal fleet strategy. #onpoli thetrillium.ca/news/municipal…

Senior levels of government have a history of interfering in TTC business. Is this $200 million being proposed unconditional for the TTC to spend how it sees fit or is it tied to specific projects.

PSA I understand this tragedy will affect those involved but I want to reiterate to everyone about prior railway safety procedures. Teach your kids these tips as well. Don’t trespass on railway tracks. Obey all crossing gates and arms. Only cross at designated crossings.
