Building a futuristic railgun on the Moon just to sell a vision of a petawatt power grid is the ultimate distraction from the fact that we cannot even maintain a basic electrical infrastructure on Earth without constant blackouts. If the plan for human progress relies on launching materials off a lunar surface while terrestrial energy costs continue to skyrocket then it is not a vision for civilization it is just a high priced vanity project for a billionaire who would rather play with space magnets than solve actual engineering problems here. No amount of electromagnetic hype can hide the reality that this is more about securing government contracts for a fantasy than it is about making large scale energy operations actually feasible.
