You could have a smaller deficit (and spend more on weapons) if you chose a communal system. You’d live longer, and have a lower neonatal death rate.

At one point, Coastal Command aircraft were added to Bomber Command to make up the “thousand bomber” raids. Finally, Harris was ordered to release long range aircraft: the battle was won inside a month.

@RichardNoon5 @BurleighArchie @Eyeswideopen69 It’s a fascinating battle. My dad was in Coastal Command, hence my interest. The best book is the 2 volume Clay Blair history, I think. Big question - why could Bomber Command keep all the long range aircraft to bomb cow fields, when they have been better used protecting convoys.

@Tregeare @BurleighArchie @Eyeswideopen69 I haven’t read it. Read some WW2 histories where the Atlantic war was covered quite well. I think most people have no idea how effective it was for Germany until adequate counter measures were discovered.

I guess it’s just a sales booster on the cover, as the author was well aware of who did what, but it’s an indication of how many Americans still see their role. Pity, it’s a fine book.

@Jan_Leeming Nonsense. Grammar has been part of the national curriculum for English for schools in England & Wales since 1988. It’s taught well. Young people typically have a far better technical knowledge of grammar than people of my generation, born in 1960s & 1970s, or those older still.
