@Zuby_Tech It must be said that Sony only bought so many studios because Microsoft, with its virtually unlimited source of money, was trying to take over almost the entire market at that time, which put Sony under pressure and led them to buy the studios

I am one of the only couple people online that understands PlayStation business, why they make certain moves such as porting to PC, inherently it is not a bad move to port business sense wise, if you disagree than sorry but you don’t understand anything about business, PlayStation main issue is innovation, it comes at a huge cost, literally, $200 - $300 Million for a single AAA singleplayer game development/studio is just plain and simple an unsustainable model. That is what fundamentally made PlayStation port to PC to get this extra revenue. But as you can see $2,370.89 Billion across 4 years of porting PlayStation AAA titles to PC is not even remotely good enough. What also proves this strategy flopped is how PlayStation Studios AAA Singleplayer Tentpole titles declined heavily in sales during this period, before porting to PC God Of War, Horizon, The Last Of Us, Marvel's Spider-Man & Uncharted all sold around 20+ Million Units, again I don't see a single person or gaming outlet point this out. Why did these games decline in sales, a lot were sequels, in fact they should sold at least 15+ Million Units more given the sheer size of the PC install base, so around 35 to 40 Million Units each. In my opinion this is totally unacceptable given the damage it did for both the sales of these games and then PlayStation's ecosystem. We can also see from the sales PlayStation has provided that sales only sold around 1 Million Units for each game on PC bar Helldivers II, funnily enough this wasn’t initially part of PlayStation's live service push as it was in development for 8 years, no one mentioned this either. Chasing live service is the correct strategy also, to help alleviate $200 - $300 Million for a singleplayer AAA game development/studio cost live service could sustain these costs with recurring revenue of this model. How PlayStation went about this was total incorrect and a complete disaster, having your own PlayStation Studios who mostly developed singleplayer AAA games to then change the studios and make live service titles was the biggest error in PlayStation history, London Studio still hurts to this day, closing this beloved studio just was wrong. How PlayStation sustains these huge $200 Million plus costs going forward remains to be seen in the future. I think it is fair to say that PlayStation porting to PC has totally flopped, these games ported should have stayed exclusives to PlayStation console. Also, IDGAF if you think porting to PC was the right move, I have always said and will always say if you are true gamer, a true fan no matter what you will buy that game day 1, I repeat DAY 1 on that said platform it launches on, PERIOD. Also acquiring Studios at the pace PlayStation did was incorrect too as it clearly did not work and fit PlayStation's history. We've seen from Shawn Laydens words it is more of if PlayStation is aligned with the studio not the studio itself, how it fits into PlayStation, not the other way around. Current strategy is a big reset of PlayStation Studios live service titles, more less most of them are cancelled. Now only 4 live service games are in development, it is clear PlayStation is moving away from live service games along with rumoured move away from PC & Mobile. Currently PlayStation will focus solely on the console PlayStation 5 & PlayStation 6 along with rumoured PlayStation Handheld. PlayStation Portal was a massive success a device that should have existed years ago, now PlayStation focusing on the handheld market as they once did with PlayStation Portable. The walled garden as they say is back, and how it should have been. Long live exclusives on PlayStation. #OnlyOnPlayStation #PlayStationStudios #PlayStation

@Zuby_Tech Yep, although I thought the base console was really good this time, the image quality issues and lack of ML hardware clearly showed there was a lot that could be improved, the Pro just makes sense Cerny was always aiming for high quality RT, which would only work with upscaling.

Mark Cerny Digital Foundry Interview: "The peak performance number for PS5 Pro is 300 8-bit TOPS without sparsity, which compares very well to the recently released AMD GPUs. We don't believe sparsity is useful for this particular upscaling algorithm." "FSR Redstone and the new PSSR have somewhat different implementations due to the underlying hardware, eg FSR Upscaling uses 8-bit floating point and PSSR uses 8-bit integer." "The MAC counts (ie the amount of math involved) also vary a bit, and training data is similar but not exactly the same. None of the above factors seem to make too much difference in results; as both SIE and AMD have just released their refreshed models, it will be an excellent test of how closely we can match our systems." "In practice, the same model is used but it's trained on different data, eg if targeting a 2:1 fixed upscale then the training data used is just for that upscaling ratio - and that different training results in different parameters. Having said that, not seeing too much difference in results, the various flavors in the updated FSR Upscaling really are rather close to the new PSSR." "When John Linneman talked about how 'image quality sensibilities' differ between console and PC, it did certainly make me sit up and take notice. Is there a significant difference? Should we be approaching training and evaluation of models differently? Definitely will be reflecting on that point." "I'm glad you brought that up! When Oliver interviewed me and Mike Fitzgerald in 2024, I was a bit uncertain about whether there could be a user option to upgrade all PSSR-supported titles to the new PSSR - the key issue being that for that option to make sense, the new PSSR would have to be faster than the original one." "We made that our target, and ultimately managed to achieve it - the new PSSR is something like 100 microseconds faster than the original. Which in turn allowed us to implement the 'Enhance PSSR Image Quality' option to force-upgrade all PSSR-supported games. If you use it, frame drops should become oh-so-slightly rarer." "Patching games can be a fairly tedious process, so the recent system software included a driver update that recognizes the eleven titles we announced (eg Silent Hill 2) and substitutes the new PSSR. In all cases this was done at the request of the developers, and was based on their broad QA of their games." "Going forward, a few titles will be patched - that patch will move to the new PSSR, and simultaneously do some tweaking of the input data fed into PSSR. This is the best strategy when it’s apparent from that broad QA that game-side adjustments are needed for ideal image quality (eg changes to the mipmap bias, or to the calculation of exposure)." "With that said, the 'Enhance PSSR Image Quality' mode is made possible because the newly upgraded PSSR works on the same inputs as the original ("That allows for a quick transition from one to the other." "For a few of the titles we found that turning on the 'Enhance PSSR Image Quality' feature provides wonderful overall improvement to the title, but also causes aliasing in a few scenes, eg instability in light sources smaller than a pixel in size. Personally I'd turn it on in such a case, as 99 percent+ of the game is better, but it's a choice we each need to make individually as gamers. I'm guessing the PS5 Pro community (and yourselves) will quickly have some guidance on what is best to do on a title by title basis." "The current strategy is that it will be fixed, ie even if there are updated network parameters for the most recent PS5 Pro games, those parameters will not be applied when the Enhance feature is used. That allows the PS5 Pro community to provide clear guidance on how and when to use the Enhance feature - conversely, if the parameters were continually being updated then that guidance would be much harder to provide. Having said that, we are in very early days here at PlayStation with these ML libraries, and I'm certain our strategy will evolve over time." "Just to clarify a few things about the collaboration with AMD, the new PSSR uses the same core co-developed algorithm as FSR Redstone's Upscaling (to avoid confusion, I'll use the new names today rather than FSR4). FSR Frame Generation is also based on co-developed technology (or as my good friend Jack Huynh puts it, 'co-engineered technology'). I'm very happy with how that work is progressing, and an equivalent frame generation library should be seen at some point on PlayStation platforms." "Great questions, particularly considering that FSR Frame Generation is technology that was co-developed between SIE and AMD, we're intimately familiar with it. All I can say is that we have no more releases planned for this year. And that I look forward to discussing this more in the future!"

@PlayStation Resident Evil is an example of how to keep a series relevant over all these years, single handedly kept Survival Horror alive when all other publishers had almost given up on the genre. S tier games.

@Bawkbasoup RE3:Nemesis was my first introduction through my older brother playing it on a CRT all those years ago, favourite franchise in the industry by a landslide, I have not played or replayed any other games as much as I have done with Resident Evil games, they are just that good.

Happy 30th Anniversary to my favorite franchise of all time Resident Evil 🧬 I got into these games by watching my oldest brother play RE1 while I cowered in fear as a 5 year old from the corner of his room. Now its the main franchise I enjoy replaying & streaming. What's everyone's most played RE game!? As you can clearly see mines RE3 🤓

@Brev2034 @TheBardess @SSGSentinel @mrpyo1 Gaming is a business, if the business starts losing money case and point Microsoft the console stops being the focus. That is bad for ME as a customer who bought a 500$ plastic box which now barely has any support. Sales directly correlate with platform health.

@Treks448 @Brev2034 @SSGSentinel @mrpyo1 Consoles should be become obsolete as they are now though. Literally everyone else is moving towards broad availability and you have Sony stuck in the dark ages thinking it's still the early 2000s. It's not. The future is playing your games anywhere.

@Brev2034 @Spaniel_N7 @SSGSentinel @mrpyo1 Yeah multiple price hikes, cutting off the lowest tiers from day 1, no ABK backlog access to Gamepass users. That does not sound like a great thing for me as a consumer, Microsoft has completely lost me as a consumer, the Xbox series X will be my last ever Microsoft hardware.

@digitalfoundry Ghost of Yotei would be the best title to use ML frame-gen on, in RT Pro mode with unlocked framerate it constantly stays above 60fps, which is key for a good frame-gen experience, maybe they should start experimenting on the Pro right now to prepare for PS6 and future.

@Treks448 @Brev2034 @SSGSentinel @mrpyo1 Most ps5 players would never buy an Xbox, but they'll buy the games, it's a revenue stream that didn't exist before and any company would be mad to ignore it Buy a play anywhere game once and play it on pc and Xbox. @Spaniel_N7 @Brev2034 @SSGSentinel @mrpyo1 The point isn't you can watch it on anything, the point is if Netflix published their exclusive shows on HBO+, Apple TV or any other streaming platform why would anyone in their right mind keep subscribed to Netflix? Exclusivity drives sales across all entertainment industries.
