I can tell you that my family in Michigan doesn't give a damn about this faux 'scandal'. I can also tell you a fixation and fetishization of 'title's and degrees is exactly why many of them hate the Democratic party. @AbdulElSayed is a MD PhD Rhodes Scholar that successful ran Detroit's health department for years. Plus, this isn't new news at all, it was reported years ago. But it conveniently became a big deal today when a new poll showed him in the lead. Y'all, we need to get over ourselves. If he comes at you trying to do brain surgery, yeah, maybe its a thing. But if he's putting forward policy about the absolutely embarrassing mess that is health care is in this country, its hard to imagine anything that matters less.

NEW: Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed for years has publicly said that he’s a physician — but there’s overwhelming evidence that he’s had no experience as a licensed medical doctor. W/ @dlippman politico.com/news/2026/05/1…

@2024dion I'm not sure why you keep showing up on my TL - but this is Kansas City, MO. The Lions Playoff game brought nearly 40million dollars to the city, and it blends so well into the city (keep it extremely walkable).

@_jacobmjones I mean, is this really correct? Buffalo, St Louis, Cleveland don’t have similar relationships with abandoned mansions buttressed next to new development? My friend lived in a condo near Prairie District in Chicago that felt very similar to what is becoming of Brush Park.

There's something fascinating about Detroit being one of the few cities in the nation that didn't tear down their gilded age mansions en masse only to have those same gilded aged mansions, once abandoned, used as a symbol that it doesn't care about its history.

Brush Park is interesting because it's invoked as a symbol of Detroit's postwar decline, but its destruction began in the city's heyday. It's the result of Detroit's inability to plan for and sustain urbanism, and a total disinterest in saving the places where Black people lived.
Aaron Foley@aaronkfoley

Some people only remember Brush Park as vacant lots. Those same people — I’m guessing — don’t remember the dilapidated 1800s Victorian mansions beyond repair, looking like some Scooby-Doo shit, that were cleared off those lots. No one is alive to remember Brush Park at its peak

@flaredet @2024dion That's unfortunate, but hopefully over time. Being walkable to every major Detroit sports league seems really appealing to me, once the dust settles in the area.

Spent some time walking around downtown Detroit this afternoon. Most of the 2010s projects that were ongoing when I left in 2022 are complete (Hudson’s Site, Book Tower, a few smaller buildings) but it doesn’t seem that there’s much that’s new, which is a crazy contrast to my first time here in 2019 whew every block seemed to have something going on. The UM building and the convention center hotel are the only new construction going up, it seems, and all the buildings that were vacant when I left are still vacant. My old office tower, the Michigan Building, looks like it might be totally empty now too. Retail vacancies are about the same, maybe slightly down at best. The qline hasn’t upgraded its ROW and the cars are already aging fast. It’s a bit of whiplash for me after spending last week in Austin where the 2020s have had explosive physical growth downtown & everything was both new and packed. I don’t know if the pandemic just crushed office occupancy and made downtown less desirable to live in, or if the low hanging fruit has been plucked and now Gilbert has pulled back, or what, but the vibrancy and promise of the 2010s seems to have slacked off.

@detroitdevdoc The only real problem I see with this is the Detroit station is in New Center. For this to be a success it would have to drop you off closer to the stadiums. Does the rail line head closer to downtown?

Looks like AIPAC Stevens is close to last in the primary. Great news. El-Sayed still has a lot of ground to cover, but I’d much rather have a McMorrow v El-Sayed race then one with Stevens

a quick study of @ordinaryfolkco between work assignments last week. I learned a lot in 5 seconds - but I'll do anything to stare at their animations all day long.
