Census Bureau: Detroit has gained 11,000 residents over the last two years, representing the largest numeric increase in Michigan. The city has now grown by >1% since the 2020 count. Just incredible news, especially considering the situation 10-15 years ago.

A small group of Northville-based anti-tax activists are suing to block a Wayne Countywide vote for public transit. It's odd to fight transit now - with soaring gas prices and more people in need of affordable mobility - but as always, some people are less affected than others.

@2024dion Hot take, but maybe none? Immigration, birth rates, and even domestic migration rates are all falling. There also doesn’t seem to be a clear “next industry” to succeed tech right now. Rust Belt may continue to stabilize, which will feel like a boom relative to decades of loss.

Michigan could really improve intercity buses, including providing 8 trips a DAY from Detroit-Lansing-Grand Rapids, by doubling our current state budget from $10 million to $20 million. That's very little money in state budget terms, and buses could start running in six months!
Jarrett Walker@humantransit

Good time for a US intercity bus renaissance. Intercity buses don’t have to be grim. That was a business decision and others could be tried. States also have a role.

While the People Mover is technically an automated light metro (not light rail), the more relevant distinction to note is this likely means the organization that operates the rail system (Detroit Transportation Corp.) will purse the connection to Michigan Central.

Some of the last remaining pre-war industrial behemoths in Detroit: Fisher Body 21, the Murray Body Plant, and part of the Highland Park Ford complex. Two occupied (though decaying badly), one undergoing a (apparently stalled) renovation.
