In most cases, an evil character shouldn't be evil "because they were just born that way idk" and instead they should be evil because of the choices they made and continue to make.
They don't do evil because they're evil. They're evil because they do evil.

I keep seeing this same old “I don’t want complex villains, I just want evil irredeemable ones!” and ngl I hate this. Complex doesn’t automatically mean they’re gray. A pure evil character can still be complex, it just means they have a personality and they represent something
