The Ghana Card? We started conversations about it years before my friend Dr. Bawumia became Vice-President. I remember Herman Chinery Hesse introducing Moses Baiden, the MD of Margins, to me during Kufuor's tenure as the person with the best identity management system for handling our ID cards. Sadly, the Kufuor government preferred some unreliable Europeans who couldn't deliver—partly due to funding issues. Then politics took over. The NDC won the 2008 elections, and a lot changed.
IMANI virtually battled the NIA during the Atta Mills administration to push for the right thing. Mass registrations for ID cards were held in all regions except the then three northern regions.
Apparently, an "improved" technology—one that captured all five fingers instead of the three or four fingers previously captured in the other seven regions—had been "discovered." Sadly, the claim was that all the data collected from millions of Ghanaians in those seven regions wasn't worthy of a national ID system. I remember Moses Baiden and Herman telling me that we could still use the data collected to process authentic IDs, but it all fell on deaf ears at the NIA board at the time. Moses Baiden struggled, but he persevered. I would later be part of a private sector sounding board at the Danish Embassy, alongside Patrick Awuah and Elizabeth Villars, that approved some initial funding for the private company, Margins, to continue his card business during President Mahama's first term.
Then came the NPP under Nana and Bawumia. The NPP abandoned the data collected from the seven regions. They procured technology that captured five fingers. Margins helped through an arrangement with the NIA, and Ghana had to register all over again for ID cards.
So you see, much happened with our ID cards years before Bawumia became Vice-President. He promoted the card, but he didn't initiate it, nor did he invent it. Please, enough already 😃. Happy Eid!

@JoyNewsOnTV ...The system will let you choose only one party, so you can only vote in one party's primaries for the next 4 years. The EC will compile voters register for any primaries. The elections will be free, not based on payment of any dues. Vote-buying will disappear.

Declare that every registered member in good standing of a political party is entitled to vote in the party's internal elections - AG tells Supreme Court

@JoyNewsOnTV "Registered member of good standing?" This means the member has paid his/her dues. What if he/she can't afford to pay? What if the dues are too high? Best solution, get people to choose their preferred party during voters registration. One can only choose one party....

@JusticeSremSai The elections should be organized and financed by the EC, for it to make sense.

Yesterday, we filed our argument in what, I think, is one of the most impactful constitutional law cases in the 4th Republic - the Anti-delegate System (ADS) case.
The case was brought by Prof KWABENA PROF FRIMPONG BOATENG, DR NYAHO NYAHO-TAMAKLOE and DR CHRISTINE AMOAKO-NUAMAH, with @barkervogues as counsel.
The 3 distinguished senior statespersons want the Supreme Court to declare that all registered members (in good standing) of a political party are entitled to vote in the party’s primaries.
We believe that the declaration, if made by the Supreme Court, will considerably improve our democracy in many ways. We argued in support of the Plaintiff’s case.

@lordcudjoe I don't know anything about banking, but when you go to your bank, and it can't give your own money back to you, that bank has to be closed down to protect the public. This has nothing to do with someone wanting to buy it or anything else. It's responsible governance.
English

GN Bank was a victim of deliberate high-handedness. Dr. Nduom was essentially told, "You either sell to us, or you be damned."
The Bank of Ghana should not appeal the Court of Appeal's ruling. Instead, they should ensure that whatever becomes of GN Bank, it is regulated just like any other financial institution.
Sometimes, we are our own worst enemies. Supporting strong, law-abiding local companies is far better than sheepishly enabling foreign companies to become disproportionately prosperous—only for them to cart all the money away in foreign exchange.
Take Engineers and Planners (E&P)—they are superb operators of mines, but they do not necessarily have the experience managing mines. Once E&P lawfully acquires a mine, they should be encouraged to hire world-class experts to manage the mines well and respect all our laws. Get serious, Ghana!

Next: Bank records showing she cashed every dollar I sent “for Ethan” on herself.
Old texts to friends: “Thank God I got rid of him. He’s too much work.”
Therapist statements documenting years of abandonment trauma.
Recorded calls where she laughed about never wanting him back.
Karla’s face turned white. The lawyer started stuttering.
Ethan spoke calmly:
“I’ve been recording since I was twelve. I knew this day would come. You didn’t want me broken. You don’t get me successful.”
He turned to Mr. Mendez:
“Counter-sue for full custody, back child support, and emotional damages. I have everything.”

My daughter abandoned her autistic son eleven years ago and came back just when he was worth 3.2 million dollars. But when she arrived with a lawyer to demand “what was hers as a mother,” my grandson only whispered: “Let her talk.” I panicked. Our lawyer turned pale. And she smiled as if she had already won.
My name is Teresa.
For eleven years, I raised Ethan alone.

Why is Ibrahim Mahama's Engineers and Planners selling gold from a mine when their lease has yet to be ratified by Parliament? The law is clear. Until Parliament ratifies a lease, the gold in any concession belongs to the State, and no other company. E&P has no right to be selling the gold. Even if these are stockpiles left by Gold Fields, they belong to the State. And then they make it look like they are doing Ghana a favour.

@eddie_wrt @akosuawat If China wants to build ChinaMalls in every Ghanaian city, let's allow them with only one proviso: at least 40% of all the goods you sell in the store must be sourced from Ghana.

The Eastern Regional Minister, @akosuawat , has ordered the temporary suspension of the ongoing China Mall construction project in Koforidua over the developers’ failure to comply with drainage and flood control directives.
The decision follows growing concerns from residents in nearby communities who have complained about persistent flooding and waterlogging during heavy rainfall.

@DontdoYawa Land-locked Ashanti is going to break away from Ghana and form an independent nation? Are you dreaming, Prof? For every example you give, I can give two which didn't work. The separatist would be crushed, as they were in Nigeria and Ethiopia. Asantehene would run with his stool.

Fellow Ghanaians, ignore the hypocrisy of @AfenyoMarkin and everyone in the NPP throwing tantrums because Abronye has been remanded. This is what the same judiciary under NPP did. Abronye doesn't have special blood flowing through his bloodstream that warrants him to be treated differently.
Frame 1 - Kwame Baffour Abronye (Bono Regional NPP Chairman, in white shirt): He is currently under lawful remand in police custody while being investigated. He faces two charges: insulting a sitting judge (allegedly calling the judge an NDC member/politician "who has covered his head with a sack") and publishing false news.
Frame 2 - Ibrahim Mohamed (NDC branch organizer, in blue shirt): He was convicted and sentenced to a total of 10 years imprisonment by the Accra Circuit Court on three charges — 3 years for publishing false news, 4 years for threatening to harm citizens, and 3 years for offensive conduct. He was lawfully remanded during investigations before sentencing.
Where was Afenyo then? @DashelleAdu @kofitonto @wofa_cle, what locus does your party have to talk today?
