@wagner_farms So I tested that a while back. I scaled in corn that was wetter, around 23%, dried and put in one 20k bu bin. Then scaled in dryer corn, around 18%, dried and put in another 20k bu bin. Hauled each bin out separately and both were nearly spot on for dry bushels expected.

Here’s a hypothesis for someone to test: phantom yield loss in corn is just a misunderstanding of shrink. Our long held belief that shrink is linear across all moisture levels is inaccurate.

If my math is right, this is the 10th consecutive day at least one person in my house has been sick. This winter can end anytime

Why do I get a feeling that we’re due for a crop withering drought this year and all my unpriced bushels in the bins will be worth a fortune by the end of the year?

@clintwfischer @GaryGvetter What if someone single gifts 10 million to a son or daughter, and then the exemption goes back down to the old limit after it expires and the estate is settled during that time?

@GaryGvetter Definitely an option. And in 2024 that lifetime amount is now $13.61 million.

A common question when tackling a farm transition plan is: "Is a will or a trust better?" Like most annoyingly good answers: "It depends." Generally, a trust is preferred if any of these complexities are in the plan: • Life estates • Long-term leases • Purchase options • Divide/survey land • Purchase financing • Rights of first refusal • Balancing inheritance • Holding assets in trust • Unique valuation methods • Beneficiary option to select assets A trust creates a legal entity that owns the property & a will merely shows intent to distribute property. A will requires involvement of a probate court to transfer property. A trust doesn't. So maybe a trust is the preferred route... If so, a "pour-over will" is still needed. It does 3 things: 1. Direct probate assets to the trust 2. Nominate an executor for probate assets 3. Name a guardian for minor children What abour privacy? → Wills are filed with the court & are public documents. → Trusts can remain private, since they don't go through probate. Finally, cost: → Will plans typically cost less to set up, but have higher estate/beneficiary costs (probate fees). → Trust plans usually have higher up-front costs and lower estate administration fees. So, if it's a relatively simple estate - a will plan might be best. If there's some complexities - a trust plan might be best. The conclusion: each transition plan is unique & there's no "correct answer" to the initial question.

Documents filed by Xcel Energy for it’s Nobles Wind facility, 134 turbines. The wind turbines lasted 12 years. Cost to decommission $85,533,609. Cost to refurbish $204,000,000. But wait, let me show you how this scam works. #GreenEnergy thread 🧵

@josh_sayler Get an insulated cover for it, I use mine in the summer too, uses less pellets and heats up way quicker.

Phantom yield loss is just that, a ghost, it doesn't exist. If you had 250bu corn at 30% and 230 at 15%, you only had 230bu of corn and 20 bu of water That's assuming physical loss is the same, which I agree will be higher with dry corn, but not 10-15bu that some claim
Schuelke@schuelkecorn

Phantom yield loss is real. I used to not believe it in my last combine, because I trusted that OEM yield monitor less than a post-taco bell wet fart. For 10ish years now we've had 20/20 yield sense, and it's accurate. It's real.

@dane_berggren @JohnGutenkauf It's pretty simple, there was more dry pounds of corn per acre when harvesting at a higher moisture. I did it two years in a row, both were well worth it, one year was very substantial. There were no obvious changes to the corn ( dropped ears, lodging, etc)

@TrialChad @JohnGutenkauf And you've proved that how? Picked the exact same amount of bu and you have more after drying? Or did using slightly off calculations tell you that you have more bu and therefore you have more $? Unl did the study and found no difference

@josh_sayler How big is the trailer? 1600 is a load! We have 1000 bu pits, it's incredible how much efficiency they gain. We pick 4500 bu/ hr and only use one truck if we are close to the bin site.

This is my screen record of 1600+ bu dumped in little over 3 min from start to finish, all while not leaving the truck.. set a camera up with simplisafe and its simple to log from phone.. great on cold windy nights and when it's drizzling like now!!!!

@JohnGutenkauf @dane_berggren Agree. Easy to test but very few do. Where does it go? I have no idea, but I know I have more money in my pocket picking not-dry corn.
