URGENT Call for Transparency and Accountability in TMS Treatment!!! Dear Providers, I feel an overwhelming responsibility to speak on behalf of those who have been ignored, silenced, and misled about the potential risks, harm, and negligence associated with Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). While there is no disputing that TMS has provided life-changing benefits for many individuals with major depressive disorder, it is equally undeniable that severe side effects exist—ones that many providers are failing to disclose. I am urging those offering these treatments, as well as their offshoots like the iTMS I personally underwent, to acknowledge and be transparent about the serious risks. I, along with thousands of others, have experienced life-altering consequences, including traumatic brain injury, brain damage, cognitive impairment, extreme somatic anxiety, dissociation, tinnitus, severe memory loss, and more. Many of us have been left bedridden, unable to work, and struggling with a reality that was never disclosed to us. There is growing scientific evidence documenting these risks. Studies have reported cases of seizures, cognitive dysfunction, and exacerbation of psychiatric symptoms following TMS. The FDA itself acknowledges that adverse events can include mania, suicidal ideation, and worsening depression. Peer-reviewed research has highlighted neuroplastic changes that, while beneficial for some, can have unpredictable and damaging consequences for others. To claim there are “no known serious side effects” is not only misleading but dangerous. Even more troubling is the lack of oversight in how these treatments are administered. In my case, the technician modifying my brain was “trained via FaceTime.” When my symptoms worsened, Energy4Life Centers in Park City dismissed my concerns. This level of irresponsibility is not an isolated incident—it is happening to countless others, and providers must be held accountable. This is a call to action. Providers must start being honest about the risks. Informed consent must be truly informed. Patients must not be abandoned when they experience severe side effects. We must change how these treatments are marketed and ensure that those suffering are not left alone in their silence. I am speaking out so that others don’t have to endure the same pain without warning. I urge you—do better.
