@0Calamity @ChrisCorney1 If you look at it another way Andy burnham as pm is considerably better than Starmer , this isn’t a general election. If he veers right, he gets voted out in a general election, greens won’t win this one, but handing a seat to reform is unforgivable

I've had a rethink.
We beat Labour AND Reform in Gorton and Denton even though everyone was saying we never could.
People want change, not more of the same.
The Greens' role is not to facilitate the resolution of Labour's internal strife. We are here to replace them.
What's the worst that could happen? One more Reform MP is the worst that could happen. That is atrocious indeed, but how is that any worse than Labour inveigling the people with yet another claimed Man of the People only for him to take a sharp turn to the right if Burnham does become PM? Increasing Labour's chances of more of the same, forever?
We are not their lackeys.
We fight. And if we fight, we will win, same as Hannah did.

Here’s Andy Burnham having a run. Politicians are a very strange bunch. So many of them like to get the TV cameras on them when they are jogging. Even the rather hefty Boris Johnson repeatedly did this. Why do politicians do this sort of thing? It’s so weird.

There are lots of 'ifs' about the return of Andy Burnham to the HoC and people saying we Greens should stand aside and let him take the seat.
Personally, I'll support whatever the local party decides to do, but my instinct is *always* to stand so that voters have a proper choice.

@earthygirl011 Essentially nothing changes, it is still a Labour seat but burnham gets rid of Starmer which we all want. If he is then more of the same, he gets voted out in a general election

Furthermore, would the Labour Party establishment *allow* Andy Burnham to be anything other than more of the same failed neoliberal economic policies, just with more charm than Starmer (low bar)?
They didn't allow Corbyn. Why should we think it would be any different now

@JamesEFoster @TheGreenParty I agree James, I’m a new green voter, but after the local elections here it’s clear greens have no chance, so by standing they will let reform in, I would prefer Andy burnham to any reform candidate

I don’t think @TheGreenParty should stand but… if they do… I will obviously support them vociferously and unequivocally.
We deserve better than Reform or Labour but that’s what this battle is going to be.

Can I just clarify something:
Saying @TheGreenParty shouldn’t stand does not mean “we back Burnham”.
Burnham is going to lose.
It’s not our fight. Not our war. Not our drama.
This is about the Labour Party and the ego of one man.

@earthygirl011 @redgraeme It will be a costly mistake for the greens in my opinion, if reform win, greens will be blamed for letting them in for a small percentage of votes, they will not win this seat, so need to look at the bigger picture

People will have more respect for the Green Party if they stand up and be counted in Makersfield instead of making backroom electoral deals to manipulate the result
If you want to win you have to persuade enough people to vote for you, that's how it works

@LuckyHeronSay Modern politics should be about compromise and working together, there will be constituencies the greens are polling high but would lose to reform if Labour voters don’t lend their vote. The last thing Labour of Green voters need is to fight each other and let reform in

The Greens shouldn't stand against Andy Burnham in Makerfield.
We wouldn't win. It would damage our credibility. Reform would 100% get in. And a successful Burnham would owe greens a favour and be more likely to not contest key green targets in a general election.

The greens running a campaign against Burnham could block any easy path to Parliament.
If he expects us to stand down then the cost is proportional representation, legislated for immediately. No referendum. The referendum is every election that has distorted democratic will.
