According to Virginia Dept. of Agriculture shelter reports, PETA's Norfolk facility euthanized 2,213 animals in 2024 (out of 3,317 intake) and ~1,675 dogs/cats/small animals in 2025. Average ~2,000/year recently. PETA says these are mostly sick, injured, elderly, aggressive, or unadoptable animals they accept as open-admission last resort when others decline.
