@sorcerers_claw Adaptations standardize designs so that hundreds of different animators can replicate them consistently. The anime can't get away with a blob of solid black and a bunch of random lines like in the manga if they actually want to keep the level of detail they're aiming for but sure

@RespectElves Game was 100% designed for the Japanese market in mind yet the uncensored Wii U version sold less than Star Fox 0 in Japan. The game was simply too niche and Nintendo had no idea how to market it + SMT/FE fans had already poisoned perception of it before censorship was factored

There are plenty of sad/dramatic shows out there but very few feel this blatant in their attempt to make the viewer sad (all while offering nothing of substance). They might as well bypass visuals altogether and put the words "please cry" on screen in bold for 20 minutes...

The catchphrase ("A noble warrior spanning eras") seems to reference winning Tenno Sho Spring back to back in both the Heisei/Reiwa eras

@jmacgarth There's pretty much no story and characters have just a few lines of dialogue. Back in the day I'm sure some people had fun with the gameplay but it's hard to get attached to the characters (the main selling point of these games) if you aren't already familiar with the franchise

One of the best things about this adaptation is that instead of trying to replicate the manga's art with worse results it'd rather take advantage of the different medium. A lingering still based on the iconic double spread may have sufficed but it wouldn't have the same impact
