@LeftieMidwife @MedRegoncall1 They can't, courses ask for 3 years post-reg experience, when I've looked. As a student nurse, I did know a couple of peers who 'were just doing this (nursing) to go on to do their ACP' 😕

@MedRegoncall1 How can a newly qualified nurse jump straight into an ACP role? This is really dangerous, the madness is really experienced clinical nurses/midwives will hit the Band 6/7 ceiling and stay there.

🏴‍☠️ This is the value of nursing as a profession these days: Just qualified as a nurse and unsure if to do ACP or Graduate entry medicine. ⭕️ A Couple of ACPs I spoke to said they do all things even the consultants do including even surgery in ENT but they just don't get the same wages. ⭕️ ACP is around 60k whereas eventually reaching consultant level is 140k. ⭕️ It's not about the money but you wouldn't have to work full time so would be less stressed overall on higher pay. Absolutely shambolic.

@giles_home @anaesthetic_spr I once worked on a ward where higher up bands wouldn't talk to certain bands below them unless it was about pt care. I wish I was joking.

@anaesthetic_spr I really dislike the banding culture. I remember my first day in the NHS, someone genuinely introduced themselves as "David - 8b". I had no idea what he was on about. And yes, he proved to be as ineffective as the pettiness suggested he would be.

One of the anon nurses said I should be referred to the GMC for being “toxic towards nurses.” Look at this picture, where Band 7 nurses are publicly being toxic and discriminatory towards Band 5–6 nurses and HCAs This is a big turn-off for most student nurses in the NHS.

Just laughing at a social media post I just saw that said nurses start on 35K now and then move to 50k through the years 🤣 What a joke. #Nursing

This is really important in the context of NHS budgets being cut across the hospital sector...many hospitals are short of the nurses needed to provide safe care: channel4.com/news/factcheck…

Adolescence really leans into the normality of it all. The mum and dad are so normal, it's a normal, average high school. The kid is someone who could be in your son or daughter's class. It is so brilliantly undramatic and that's what makes it so brilliant.

@ga_linda_ @drruthannharpur I was under the impression the mother would be put under GA in such an emergency. At least, this is what used to happen on a unit I worked on.

@drruthannharpur Agreed, but as we both know anesthesia/ spinals don’t always take. Or take time to work, they aren’t instant. What’s crucial at the moment is to get the baby out, because without oxygen supply the baby will die.

Maternity staff continued with a c section while their patient screamed in pain (screams her husband describes as blood curdling) as her anesthesia had failed. The trust's investigation found: -doctors and midwives understood she had given consent (consent for surgery without anaesthesia?!) -they missed opportunities to check she knew what was happening... Really?! It seems she and her husband were the only ones in the room who knew what was happening Am I missing something here? This is the stuff of horror movies.

A Nottingham mum was forced to have a caesarean without anaesthetic as medics ignored her screams for help. Yvonne Gwara-Nare said she felt like "an animal being slaughtered on the table" as she traumatically gave birth to her daughter at City Hospital. nottinghampost.com/news/nottingha…

Terrible news. There is no evidence whatsoever linking any vaccine, including the MMR, to autism. British anti-vaxx charlatan Andrew Wakefield was responsible for spreading that lie in the 1990s. He was struck off for his fraudulent research. RFK is dangerous.

It's really not good enough for the RCN to say GPNs should ‘raise this with their employer’. GPNs are in a precarious and vulnerable position due to being directly employed by GPs and are not always in a position to challenge because of this. We need to collectively do better to support this highly skilled group of professionals nursinginpractice.com/latest-news/gp….
