@9x19 I will decline to pass judgement on that specific case. I would add, I can cite several other prominent visible minority cast members on current scripted Canadian shows, where the character is not a caricature, and is comparatively normal, in the context of scripted TV.

@TrueNorthernLi1 It'd be offensive if it was written by a non Korean person. Written by a Korean it's just a sad example of internalized racism.

A striking thing about British television is that there are people of colour who are just ordinary characters that happen to be cast as black or brown or Asian (etc). Almost like... real life in a diverse country.

@9x19 The lead writer is a Korean Canadian, Ins Choi , the same person who wrote the play on which the show is based. I don't know that you can find discrimination there.

@TrueNorthernLi1 I'd cite Kim's Convenience as an example of what I'm talking about. It gets better but in the first season, half the time the joke is just the parents' exaggerated accents. The entire subplot with the cousin from Korea was just "lol, she talk funny" hammered in 40 times.

@trainguy89 Great job! More physical improvements are needed, but this is a great short-term move in the right direction.

Finally, after months of advocating for a safer E.T Seton Park access road, there are now Speed Limit signs! I can proudly say that I did this for my residents who walk or my friends who bike in the valley. The road will be a lot more safer now.

@9x19 While over at CTV Transplant's cast includes a lead actor of Iranian descent playing a medical doctor; as well as Black woman in the same profession and 2 other minorities actors in recurring roles (surgeon and social worker). I think your generalization is problematic.

@9x19 Um, CBC also runs Kim's Convenience, Mohawk Girls, Diggstown (lead character is a Black Woman); many other shows w/minorities in the lead and as 'normal people'. Doubtless there is more room for improvement........1/

@9x19 There is room for thoughtful concern about a deficit; or what restrictions have or have not been imposed and how that is correlated to the science. This, is not that. This is a full-on tinfoil hat rant.

Toronto Council meets today! Compared to watching the U.S. President in that debate last night, this will be high art. It’ll be poetry. The words will sing. It will stream live on YouTube here: youtube.com/watch?v=q_KvPx…

@9x19 Levitt has a strong anti-worker bias. He really dislikes quality employment standards and is disinclined to follow evidence when it comes to their benefits.

@GraphicMatt Holyday is on the wrong side of every issue. I'm quite certain he would vote against Motherhood, and Apple pie; and in favour of war and famine.

Councillor Stephen Holyday says he’ll oppose both of Layton’s motions. “As far as I’m concerned, they’re POISON PILLS. They’re there to disrupt and cast doubt on whether or not this is a GOLF CITY!”

Councillor Gary Crawford argues if Council lets contracts with golf course vendors expire on November 30, city would have to start over with an RFP and that typically takes a long time. “We’ll have empty golf courses for the next 18 months.”

@PasternakTO Councillor, I see you saying we should wait for a report on golf courses. But a report was requested 3 years ago, and is more than a year late. Parks needs to operate in good faith. They have not been. The contract extension should be denied.

@dmrider Great. Truthfully, I'm open to keeping some of the courses. But I'm not up for this 2-year stalling tactic. Parks was asked to generate a report on the future of the Courses 3 years ago. It was due last fall. Its still not before Council. Those tactics ought not be rewarded.

Coun. Crawford - if we defer contracts will expire and have no contract for golf course operator in the spring. Process to find new one will see golf courses sitting empty for 12 to 18 months.

Colle argues the city golf courses are great sanctuaries for birds and wildlife. “Maybe we don’t want too many people on these golf courses!” He says consultation on golf courses would be a farce: “you’re not going to get regular people, you’re going to get Twitter people!”

@GraphicMatt As an incentive to City staff, the courses should not re-open until Council comes to a final decision on their future.

@GraphicMatt That can't be rewarded. We need a thoughtful discussion on whether to modify some courses to pitch n' putt (golf w/maximum 100 yard fairways, that takes a bit less than 1/2 the typical area), to fully shift some courses to other uses, or fully retain a couple.
