The reason is because doctors decided it was unethical to subject men to the side effects they subject women to because men experience “no direct health benefit.” They put all the health burden of preventing pregnancy onto women because pregnancy is only a health risk to women. This is despite that unwanted pregnancies are a shared societal burden and men should be taking equal responsibility and shouldering equal costs of prevention, all the more so because women suffer the burden of pregnancy itself from an act that is usually more for the man’s pleasure than the woman’s — most women don’t need penetration to orgasm and prefer oral anyway.
