#US House Introduces Bill to Close U.S. Funding and Aid to #Somalia. The U.S. House of Representatives has introduced a draft bill, H.R. 8334, aimed at stopping U.S. funding and assistance to Somalia. Titled the Taxpayer Protection and Somalia Accountability Act of 2026,” the proposal submitted last week to House members by the Foreign Affairs and Judiciary committees, seeks to increase oversight on how U.S. funds are used by organizations operating in Somalia. The bill also calls for possible visa restrictions on current and former Somalia officials accused of involvement in corruption tied to U.S. aid, as well as actions such as the destruction or takeover of U.S.-funded aid facilities.

🚨🚨The #US Congress has had enough. They introduced a bill to cut aid to #Somalia after repeated reports of the Somali government diverting food meant for the drought-affected. UNHCR and WFP have already started pulling back. This is about protecting aid for the people who need it most.

Dear, @minpres, @vvd, @d66, @JuisteAntwoord, #Somaliland has been independent since 1991, with its own government, security forces, and democratic institutions. Its people do not identify with Somalia. In a strategically vital region, Somaliland offers the Netherlands and its partners a reliable foothold. It has demonstrated willingness to cooperate on counterterrorism, maritime security in the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and alignment with key democratic partners such as Israel, Taiwan, and Ukraine. Recognition would not only reflect realities on the ground but also strengthen regional stability and advance Dutch strategic interests. It’s time for the Netherlands to recognize the independence of our ally Somaliland.

🚨🚨 it is time to openly question the role of the British office in Hargeisa. Far too many in #Somaliland now see it not as a partner, but as an outpost that actively undermines their democracy, spies on them and works directly in the service of #Mogadishu. This betrayal is poisoning trust on the ground and staining the reputation of the United Kingdom, even casting a shadow over the unifying role of His Majesty King Charles III. This perception is damaging both to trust on the ground and to the reputation of the United Kingdom. If Britain truly values its historic standing and credibility, it must listen to the people of Somaliland rather than risk being remembered for working against their aspirations. Somaliland seeks nothing more than simple freedom and recognition, yet continued disregard risks long-term strategic consequences in regions like the #BabelMandeb, where future partnerships will be shaped by who stood with our people.
