It feels great to know that at the University of Alberta, our hiring and discrimination policies are being written by AI instead of the people who work there that have dedicated their entire lives to studying policy.

The board composition permits the govt appointees and the executive to steamroll over student, faculty, and staff representation. When will the associations and the @albertaNDP focus on reform of the PSLA? @ParklandInst #abpse @CAUS #abpoli

Shame on the @UAlberta. Rolling back EDI when we should be insisting on it. @Alberta_UCP this is your doing, I assume. Maybe keep your noses out of higher education considering how much you despise intellectuals.

March 27, 2026 The University of Alberta has chosen to remove explicit EDI commitments from its hiring policy. This is not about language. It is about accountability, power, and whether institutional commitments to equity and reconciliation are reflected in practice.

@UAlberta @The_Gateway They are stripping essential services from students, staff, and faculty while diverting more resources to the highest-paid tiers of administrators. Other major universities in Canada --even @UCalgary--are supporting ECLC, but not the @UAlberta. Why? 5/

@UAlberta @The_Gateway One of the parents summed up the situation brilliantly in a recent email to members of the @UAlberta Board of Governors: The proportion of the university budget going to executive salaries and expenses has ballooned, while the same administrators are "evicting toddlers." 4/

@UAlberta The centre directors have explained the consequences: Childcare costs for parents are increasing. Quality of care (ensured by staff qualifications and teacher-child ratios) will be diminished. Infant spaces may be eliminated. 3/ @The_Gateway #UAlberta

The first bad move was to terminate all support for six child care centres serving students, staff, and faculty of @UAlberta. The amount "saved" by doing so is, as one parent calculates, "a rounding error" for the university budget but "a life-altering blow to the community." 2/
