On 1 April 1996, 7 Regt RLC had their first RTA in the former Yugoslavia, less than 12 hours after arriving. It came 1 hour after the CO promised the Brigadier the Regiment wouldn’t have a single RTA during their entire 6-month tour. They go on to have several RTAs a week…….

Burnham has been floating loads of new ideas. No one knows if they are actual commitments or he’s just on a huge kite flying exercise. Some are batshit crazy, others interesting. But all very destabilising. To carry on like this is not clever it’s irresponsible. If you have a policy, bring forward a detailed white paper, back it up with the evidence to support your hypothesis and allow proper scrutiny from MPs, the media and the people. He hasn’t done any of the work. Just spouting off and creating anxiety in some cases, and raising expectations beyond his means to deliver, on others. This may feel like it’s headline grabbing and seizing the agenda. But long term it will end in tears. We have to stop governing like this. Boris was a classic case - meaningless slogans with nothing behind it and direction change every 5 minutes. I said it months ago. This man is Labour’s Boris.
