Sığırcıkoğlu, while working for Turkish security forces, handed Hussein Harmoush and Mustafa Kassum to Syrian mukhabarat, which tortured them to death during the Syrian uprising. Sığırcıkoğlu escaped Turkish prison in 2014 under suspicious circumstances. Turkish sources describe him as an agent which worked for Syrian and Russian services

NEW: The Turkish National Intelligence Organization (MİT) captured fugitive spy Önder Sığırcıkoğlu, who had been on the run for 12 years, near the Syria–Lebanon border. Following a joint operation conducted by MİT and the Syrian Intelligence Service, Sığırcıkoğlu was taken into custody and handed over to judicial authorities under the coordination of the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Ankara Counter-Terrorism Department.
