@stephaniepratt Not pretending to know the guy, but he’s passionate and can’t do worse than the current option. I’m not saying he’s the solution, but let’s get someone in there who holds people truly accountable and works for the people.

Savannah Guthrie’s sister and her husband bought this house just a year ago for $650K. She’s a poet. He’s a chef. Not saying they couldn’t afford it, but that’s a pretty hefty price tag for those occupations. Unless Savannah helped pay for it? It definitely makes you wonder. Money problems, maybe?

Reporter Lynn Jones on her viral interaction with #Jaguars HC Liam Coen: “He was totally immersed in his feelings. He had tears, he bit his lip. And the issue is the question… My question was, ‘Keep your head up, young man.’” She then defends herself:

@SharRonJamison Very true. Worth mentioning that a decent report could’ve used their interaction to discuss the emotion of losing the game and tie it into their boring question about the X’s and O’s.

The same reporters bashing the reporter in Jax should have the same outrage about how some reporters fail to ask Trump tough questions. The fake outrage & grandstanding are hilarious. Most reporters don't even follow their own protocols. Ethics & courage are traded for clicks.

@VinceGoodwill Maybe consider what the fans want/appreciate, and not what the “expert” does. Not understanding that, and the why, is contributing to this disconnection between some members of the media and the “non-experts”.

Final thing: as a society, it seems like a failing when we can’t admit that we aren’t the experts on every single thing, that there’s maybe someone who knows better and maybe, just maybe, we should listen.

@unclelukereal1 I support what Lynn said but the issue here isn’t because of race, at least in my opinion… it’s that nobody cares about the Cleveland Browns.

You’re goddamn right I’ll say it for you because it was a black woman that said it all of a sudden she’s a fan unprofessional. She’s not a reporter and that’s coming from black women reporters around here i’m not gonna call no names cause I don’t want them to Stephen A Smith me but I’m about that smoke. I guess being a reporter you have to be consistently a DICK ASKING , CLICK BAIT QUESTION

@BSO I watched the press conference online. People upset at Lynn but no one is upset at questions that ask the coach what he thought about the end of the game, or what have you established in year one. You telling me these questions are better than Lynn’s statement?

I haven’t seen one question from that Jacksonville press conference posted so I don’t think anyone missed out on the media asking “how do you feel after the loss”

I’ll try to address this without further inflaming things. It’s a wonderful sentiment. It’s also not the time or place for it at all, as many have noted. I accept some people won’t understand that. Especially in a playoff game, there’s a limited time with the coach, so questions ideally are short and relevant to what you’re writing. Every second at the podium is a second you’re not in open locker room, where players will leave quickly (and understandably) as their season has just painfully ended. We are human. We have empathy for people on tough days. I’ll often preface a question quickly by saying “I know things didn’t go as you’d hoped today,” something short that shows that. I say these things not out of self-importance. You try to do your job as needed without keeping others from doing theirs. This didn’t do that. That was the problem for most journalists.
Cpt_Straightlace@GraffyRob

@gregauman @NFLonFOX Whats your take on the reporter being kind to Liam Coen post-game? I feel like everybody has lost their mind a bit on this one including myself.

With respect to the people saying “you media think you’re so important, “you don’t appreciate her kindness” “there was nothing wrong with her saying it there…” I am sure that there might be customs in your profession that people not in your profession would not appreciate.
stan verrett@stanverrett

I don’t mind what the reporter did in Jacksonville. But pull the coach aside before or after the news conference and do it privately. She meant well. It was sweet. It was the wrong place.

@AmandaFGodsey Tell me more and ask more questions about the sports you (majority of media members) never played. We may not “understand” your job, but what I do know is, her statement resonated with the fans and sometimes it’s okay to go against what you consider uncomfortable.

Brooke’s correct. This is simply not the job of reporters when there is a small window of time to talk to a coach postgame. Everyone replying negatively is just proving that they don’t understand the job, but I’m sure they’ll plenty of suggestions for questions we should ask 🙄
Brooke Pryor@bepryor

look, it’s a kind sentiment, but it’s not the job of a reporter to console a coach in a postgame press conference. Pressers are to ask questions to gain a better understanding of what happened or figure out what’s next — and do it in a limited amount of time.

@ItsMikeHill Is it jealousy that she got attention? I can’t understand why so many reports feel the need to call out their colleague. Her “statement” is what we need more of. Shows the human aspect, says what fans are feeling.

Reporters make “statements” ALL the time during pressers that have NOTHING to do with anything. Usually it’s a relationship the reporter has w/the coach or player. It’s just laughed off. So my media friends who have a problem w/the lady in J’Ville, need to get over themselves.

I don’t understand this response. Am I allowed to not be mad about this — seeing as she probably meant well — while also acknowledging that it’s *wild* to hear a “reporter” give a pro coach a pep talk? To clear up the equivocation, is a better word to use *unprofessional*?
Randy Scott@RandyScottESPN

@RomeovilleKid “I’m not mad about it” is a *wild* way to equivocate 😂
