I think we can all agree, Hollywood is making movies no one wants to see.. They've become preachy and narcissistic, from the producers all the way down to the actors. It's time to stop feeding these trolls.
Mason Lemme@LemmeReact

Watched Troy (2004) for the first time before I went to see The Odyssey on opening day. Troy is better and it’s not even close. I’m convinced that ever since 2020 Hollywood has gone downhill BADLY with the immoral and inaccurate agendas that they push. It ruins movies. Go watch Troy. Brad Pitt is phenomenal as Achilles.

You can't fix a broken story like Emily Wilson's.. Her vaguely disguised political and amoral tirade on Western culture, hidden inside the wrappings of "a modern translation" of The Odyssey, is too insane to be made into any sort of coherent script.
Dissident West@dissidentwest

After watching the first ten minutes of The Odyssey I can say with one hundred percent conviction that even if you fixed the casting the movie would still be a steaming pile of shit. Anyone telling themselves otherwise is ideologically captured to the point of being lobotomized

@Sandarbh_Raj Totally agree, of a modern day movie was done about the Odyssey, unfortunately Nolan didn't make Homer's Odyssey, we made Wilson's Odyssey, which by all measurements can not be considered the same story..

No hate to the official cast….but Sydney Sweeney as Helen of Troy & Alexandra Daddario as Athena would’ve been perfect 👌

@kingjacaeryss No, you want to disguise a political and amoral message as a drama that looks like the Odyssey.

If you want to make the Odyssey but remove the mythological parts, all of the protagonist's main qualities, change all of the stories of the women and remove anything funny etc so you are only left with a depressing drama, you in fact do NOT want to make the Odyssey.

In 2021 Trump was indicted for pressuring GA SecState to investigate election irregularities. In 2026 GA admitted illegally certifying 315,000 ballots in 2020. Joe won by less than 12,000 votes. ABC CBS NBC CNN gave zero air time to this story. I turned the networks off.

What Emily Wilson has done to this classic under the guide of a "translation for modern audiences" is a disgrace to all translators. It is neither a thought-for-thought translation nor a word-for-word translation. It is instead an adaption work with the same character names. It's as if my toddler drew a picture on letter paper of a woman smiling and I tried to pass it off as a translation of the Mona Lisa.
Liza Libes@pensandpoison

In her introduction to her Odyssey translation, Emily Wilson calls Odysseus a “soldier with a traumatic past” and a “colonial invader.” Stop going after Christopher Nolan. His cowardly Odysseus is simply a reflection of this godawful biased translation he read.

Americans, explain to me, why do I, a naturalized citizen who immigrated here in 2005, love America and want to protect it? While natural born citizens want to destroy this country.

It was great to see so many foreigners enjoy themselves in the US and have positive reactions to Americans. But some of this was sad because it was clear that many had absurd preconceived notions due to mass media in their countries, especially in Europe. Like Mark Twain said, those who don’t read newspapers are uninformed; those who do are misinformed.

The "Sea People" was a Mediterranean term for what we now know were Nords. Every so often they would terrorize southern Europe, killing, pillaging, raping, etc., then vanish. They were considered giants to the relatively short Mediterraneans. And indeed Nolan, a descendant of the sea people, continues the legacy of his ancestors by raping the Odyssey.

The Odyssey IS historical. We know where the ruins of historical Troy (City of Wilusa) are, and we have known that for a very long time. Excavations at Troy 7A reveal a layers of compound ashes congruent with the war and its dating. The Homeric hills are the hill of Hisarlik in Anatolia. The Mycenean invasions are documented in Hittite imperial tablets. We even have the mention of the Mycenaean princess and the betrayal on tablet CTH74. And there is MUCH MORE to corroborate Homer's writings as real, NOT fictional. Lists of ships, armies, the league of the 22 cities of Western Anatolia and their interactions with the Mycenean world. It's REAL! To say that the Odyssey and the Iliad are not historical is such an ignorant statement at this point I don't even know why someone would choose to comment on it. The Iliad and the Odyssey are real historical events, embellished with myths, and squished together in an epic story telling format. If you add zombies and vampires to WW2 but keep all the names of the generals, the battles and the events as they happened, do the events stop being historical? Or does the addition of the supernatural make the whole WW2 a myth?
